Hey everyone, I need some advice or help. My one lone clownfish in my tank seems to have a couple of white spots on him. I need to know if he is sick. On one of his pectoral fins he has a white spot on the very very end where his fin is clear. I think you can click on these pics to take you to my flicker account so you can see the larger images it might help with seeing what I am talking about a little better.

Please let me know whats wrong, I am worried about him.

sounds like he has ick......are the foods that you're feeding him have garlic in them?....if not, you can mix in his daily food with garlic extract...and he should bounce back pretty good

You may want to get her a partner too. I hear clownfish do MUCH better when they are in pairs.

Well the guy who sold me the tank gave me his leftover food, its frozen but he didnt tell me what exactly the name was. it comes in cubes of 4 different flavors that you punch out the cube from a plastic container that is covered over with the foil. I also just bought him some tiny pellets from Aquatic Critter that have garlic in them but he doesnt like them too much. I try and give him a couple a day but he spits them out. The crabs love them however. I dont have the names to either because now I am at work and they are at home of course. Will try to give the names of them later. but his food I do not know the name of. If I take a picture of it can someone tell me what it is?

It sounds like San Francisco Bay Brand SW Multipack. It will work fine, but when you finish it off you might be better off buying a formula that has more different types of foods mixed together or foods more targeted to what you have in the tank.

You can buy garlic guard at most of the LFS (I think) and just soak your food in a bit before you feed it.

Other fish can get ick, but not your inverts....people will tell you to use copper to treat fish that are sick, but do not use copper in your display tank...Good luck

The dry stuffs doesn't work well for me. You have to get the frozen kind, Formula 2!!!! I have not try the method of soaking my food with garlic since Formula 2 works well for me. Make sure you open the pack of Formula 2 and smell it first, I've bought a bunch of bad batch from them before....You would know if it's bad since it smells like rotten egg...Lately they have been getting better with it, at least the last two batch I got from them....

Re: HELP!! Clownfish sick??

Your fish is experiencing the equivalent of emphysema and malaria. You will need a hospital tank to remove the fish to for several weeks. The ick is a parasite that lives in the tank (and now on your fish) and if you are not treating the main tank, you will need to starve multiple stages of parasites for 30 days at least. Get the (all) fish out of the tank. The parasites will eventually feed on any fish in the tank. Treat the hospital tank according the directions of whatever treatment your fish can handle. Most likely this will be some form of copper. Don’t use charcoal during this time.

You may also want to make sure your temperature stays around 79 and 80 degrees and salinity between 1.022 and 1.026.
