Hi RC,

Some very sad news today,

Been waiting for my brand new nem to acclimate to the tank, it was on day 4 and had re positioned itself from its hiding spot..

Day 5 it decided to crawl up the glass and into my mp10.

I wasn't home, my dad told me he saw a chunk of it in the pump and i found it near a rock when i got home and took it out.

Now its just hiding, is it possible for recovery? When should i declare Time of Death?

Been waiting all week for this guy to open up and move to a better spot.. :[

I'm super sad, but I don't want to give up. I hope recovery is an option...

The nem wasnt just expensive.. I feel like a terrible owner for letting this happen.

that bites... sorry to hear it... they can be quite resilient. i would keep it until it starts falling apart or won't hold onto a rock and smells bad....

i have other live stock in the tank. my pair of clowns are pretty expensive and i dont want them to die from possible poisoning

but... my nem is even more expensive then the clowns together..

i had a few do this and they all turned out fine. you might have a few baby nems healing up in their hiding spots. but if you see them turning greyish i would pull them.

to the best of my knowledge, i don't believe that a chopped bta will "poison" a tank. i am not aware of any toxins that they contain. it will raise the nutrient levels and cause issues that way if it dies and starts to decompose. if it is still firm, holding on, and not falling apart, then i would keep it. it will let go and or start falling apart before it causes and harm to your tank, ime... i would get the piece / pieces out to where i could keep a look at it. if they will stay on a visible rock great. if not, then put them in a basket.

the nems been in the same hiding spot for two days. still hold on firm. doesnt look stringy or like its decomposed. im going to just keep an eye out. i dont have a QT tank since i only have 2 clowns and no other live stock. and my intention is to only keep this type of stock.

i think if he lets go our mouth exposed and swelling up.. ill consider moving it. but for now i dont want to bug it.

does anyone know if i should attempt feeding it mysis?

this type or this stock? there is a big difference. if you are planning on getting other bta's, then you should consider a qt setup. they can bring a pathogen or something contagious with them when introduced. if you are dealing with the high end nems, it would be advisable...

i would wait for a week or two and let it heal up some. after that time, try feeding a small meal once or twice a week. i rotate between mysis and chopped krill.

I had a rbta that split and then went into my koralia the next day. so in one day i lost half my rbta but still had one. Hope yours makes it. You see people cutting a bta in half and successfully splitting them so maybe getting a few cuts should be okay. Best of luck
