I am fairly new to the hobby and would like to know what is causing my coral to die.
I have tested my water and everything is normal but my nitrate (40ppm) I have been trying to reduce my nitrate by partial water changes but it has not dropped below 40. Someone please help! Thanks

You could provide much more detailed information if you want real help.
Overfeeding and lack of knowledge is a common coral killer for beginners.
If you started with sps, that could have been a bad move.

+1 also are you using rodi water your filters may be bad. how long has your tank been set up for also you would need to do large waterchanges to get them numbers lower but if your using tap water your not fixing anything since there is a lot of impurities in it. let us know how long your tank has been up what all is in the tank for fish and what not.
