Help finding fishes for 30g Rimless

Hi,

I was looking to add some specials fishes for my frag tank that is more of a nano tank that will hold frag instead of the common eggcrated frag tank. It's rimless so I need to find fish that are not jumper ... I want something special not necessairly extremely rare but less common that gonna be my FT centerpiece. I was looking into yellow candy hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus) but I'm not sure because I didn't do my research on it yet. I will like to add a couple if possible.

My frag tank is 24x24x12 which give roughly 30g. Koralia 4 for water movement which gives me around 45x.

1 pink fairy wrasse
2 blue eye cardinals

the hogfish and the wrasse never bothers each other ive never and i dont have a cover on the tank. I have 3x 6055 on the super mod cover putting out at least 2000+ gph each so it gives me around 200x turn over.

look into the swissguard basslet

Not always reef safe but a Brazilian flame back would be nice. Just my two cents.

Thank you for the suggestion, I might look into a like school of 5 blue eye cardinals also I did look at the sawlesi basslet but I read that they were really reclusive and doesn't come out a lot, only at feeding time. Is the swissguard have the same behavior or is it less shy ?

Actually, the first plan was to add a couple of flameback but I though that 30g will be to small to have a couple of flameback ... Maybe I'm wrong :spin1: If that's the case, I could add them :inlove: Do you guys have any experience having a couple of flameback in a 30g ? Is it doable and will the fishes feel comfortable in that size of a tank ?

Any other suggestions ?

The flame back that I have is pretty small only about an inch long. They are some of the smaller species of pygmy angels. Right npw I have a trio of potters angels and I just added the flame back yesterday afternoon. Back to your original question I don't see anything wrong with trying a pair of flame backs in your frag tank.

Dracula Gobies are very cool, but unless you have a tight lid, they will jump out.

A school of 5 blue eyes will be absolutely amazing as long as you get good stock, i started out with 6 and eventually one died off one by one until now that i have a pair (paired off for about 3 months now). I'll be getting a Swissguard and from all the one that i have seen in other friends tanks (2 so far) they have been all fairly active fish. They do hide from time to time but definitely not in the rocks 24/7 until feeding.

I have a 3 pack of blue eyed cardinals(or whatever name you want to call them). I started out with 4 but one died. I wouldn't say it was an "odd" death, because I had all 4 for a while. Now I've had the three that I have for about 6 months or so I'd say. They're actually really cool fish. In my old tank they were kinda "blah" because they just hung out in the back behind the rockwork. Now they are in a new tank and come out all of the time. Better yet, they school together really well. I know people say that it's rare to find fish that school together well, but these do from my limited experience. Great fish.

Oh and on a side note, I'd always recommend clownfish. Perhaps a black perc or something. Oh and I'm not sure if a twinspot hog would be a good choice. I had one in a biocube and he'd jump in to the back compartment. I'm not sure if they are known jumpers, but mine did.

I would recommend a screen top that's removable so that you can enjoy the full rimless effect whenever you're around... Unless you like replacing fish

Actually it is a pistol shrimp not a mantis shrimp.

Amen to that. Fairy wrasses especially are not for rimless tanks unless they have a cover with SMALL (not egg crate) holes.

fairy wrasses are definitely jumpers but this ones been with me for almost 10 months now and there seems to be no aggression with my hogfish so hopefully that doesnt happen. The hawkfish never get above the 6" point in the tank, i can see it being a jumper as its more related to anthias' as it's not a true hawkfish species but everyones playing nice. *knock on wood*

I know that every fish is a jumper, unfortunately lol

I was looking around and I end up on flashing tilefish in Lastversion's thread !! What an awesome fish ! But I think they tend to jump so I either need another nano lol or find a way to cover my frag tank ... I need to do more research on this fish. Not sure abou the price ... I was looking on bluezoo and it was 150$ ... Which isn't so bad. The problem is they grow to 11" ... Is there any other fish that change color that could go in a 30g ??
