*HELP!*Glass-Holes Overflow & Return Install Questions

Hey guys, i am setting up my fort 29 gallon reef tank with a 20gal long sump that i built myself. I ordered a Glass-Holes 700GPG Internal Overflow Box and a 3/4" Loc-Line return kit. I am at the point where i am going to be drilling my holes. Both kits came with wooden hole templates which is nice but i have a few questions before i start drilling:

700GPH Overflow Kit:

- I will be mounting the box on the back glass. Can i mount the box on the corner or is there a benefit to mounting it in the center? I think i like the looks of the corner better, but don't want to hurt performance.

- How high up on the glass do i want the box? I do have a lid for it, so i'm assuming that if i mount it up as close to the plastic trim as possible where i can still remove the lid that will give me a water line that is as close as possible to the black plastic trim. Any advice?

3/4" Loc-Line Return Kit:

- Does location really matter when drilling the hole? The Loc-Line is flexible, so im assuming as long as i am under the water line that should be fine. Any advice on location for the return?

- I plan on installing the Overflow on one side and the return on the other. Is this a good idea?

Ive been learning as i go and everything is going great, I really appreciate the help! I would like to drill the holes tomorrow evening.

Be sure and try to drill the return and overflow at near the same height. Water will back flow to your sump based on the lowest hole in the tank. If you drill the return too low, then you better have a sump that can handle it.

I planned to mount the return higher than the hole i drill for the overflow. The loc-line has a lot of room for adjustment so i figure i can set the height with that.

When I drilled my 120 for a GH 1500/hr kit, I put the lid on the overflow box and then placed it as high as I could under the trim. I prefer it to be centered, bu it really does not matter - it will work the same regardless of where you put it. I would drill the return as high as possble also - although you hve locline to adjust the output, it has been know to leak at the joints. If it does, it could be a problem unless your sump is big enough.

Just try to stay at least one hole diameter away from any other hole or the edge of the glass.

billdogg- thanks, thats what i was thinking with the overflow box. The only thing i am concered with is when i put the overflow box with the lid up to where it touches the inner trim and then slightly move it down so i can still remove the lid, it looks like the teeth are quite a bit below the trim line. I want my waterline to be atleast above the black trim piece. Is this how yours looked when you installed it? I know the water should be 1/2"-3/4" up the teeth once the water starts flowing, but im not sure that will be enough to bring it above the trim

I cut the trim away so that the cover for the overflow box was flush with the remaining trim. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. My 60g cube is a DSA tank, which I knew was very over built and would never fall apart because I removed 6" of trim on the center of the back lip.

I have read other places about adding an acrylic strip to the teeth in the box to adjust water height. This will probably be what i do if needed. I don't think i want to risk removing the trip just because im not sure how structurally important it is on this tank.

glass holes tells you in the instructions where to place the overflow box. For mine, I have decided to go with an over the back return and using a homemade spray-bar. Loc line is just such a ripoff.
