It almost sounds like the bristleworm debate.... Or another case of something is dying and a bristleworm/starfish is cleaning up. That last picture in the link looked suspiciously like a trail, rather than something spreading though. Just a thought...

I found one in my tank eating on a coral. I removed it. It was the only one I have ever seen in my tank. After I had removed it I searched the net a found the article on garf and some other places. It is apparently a hit and miss situation. I have over $25k invested in my tank so a little starfish is not worth the risk for me.
