Help! Green Slimer turned white after chemical war

Hi RC,

I have a green slimer touching orange montipora for a while now. Didn't have any serious problem before, Monti would turned white at the part it touches the green slimer a bit and everything was fine.

This morning, I noticed that half of the monti was turning white, so I break off the monti to move it and save the rest of the coral. I went to work and tonight i found all part of montipora turned white although it is completely separated (luckily i have a frag before everything). Worse yet, my green slimer is turning white at the bottom (much more than the part that was touching the monti). Will it recover or should I start fragging the green slimer to save it? I can't take the picture right now since the light is off and I am afraid that it might get worse overnight.

I would cut a small frag off the top just in case, it may stop, but it's also possible that it may not.

Montis and acros play pretty nice IMO, and slowly grow around each other with maybe small amounts of white only at the immediate touch points, but that's it. What you describe sounds like something else has wiped the monti out.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, this morning 3/4 of my green slimer (about 4 inches tall) has turned white. So i just cut off the tops that is still green. Hopefully they survive. It was really really quick and I have never seen anything like that before. Within 24 hours, the whole colony turned white. I grew those two out of small frags and very mad right now. Lessons learned, I guess.

Tweaked, I don't see any other reason what could have caused this. I have a frag of monti that is in the same tank. It was fine. All other corals including other sps are fine. Just those two. :( :( For a long time, they were playing nice and only small white part where they touched like you mentioned.

I'd dip the acro frag in iodine for a few days to kill the bacteria and protozoa. I agree it seems like chemical warfare caused your acro to RTN. Do you run carbon normally?
