Help!?!? Green Water

Is there anything in it yet.First I would try to find out whyit turned green. I would do a 50 % water change if it was mine.good luck Scott

wont hurt the fish as long as you match the parameters of the water coming out. You know temp, salinity, pH, Alk are the most important ones then just do it.

It will turn green again very fast...sounds like you have a free floating algae issue....find the cause first...and try some carbon....

Your tap water probably has phosphate in it. Some water systems add sodium ortho-phosphate to help with lead and copper rules.

So, doing a water change with tap water will only make this worse, like adding fertilizer to a lawn.

You'll need to test the tap water to make sure that's the problem.

A Reverse Osomsis / Deionizer will help solve the problem by making your water almost pure.

See if you can borrow a UV sterilizer and hook it up to your tank. this will help to get rid of the algae. Also i would try to do a couple of water changes using PO4 and NO3 free water. HTH

Green water usually means a phytoplankton bloom. They happen from time to time, especially in new tanks.

Using a cleaner water supply can help reduce nutrients in the water. You could also consider eliminating feeding for a few days. I wouldn't do a water change greater than 25% in one shot if there are animals in the tank. A series of 25% changes might help, though.

A UV filter will usually kill such pests in a few days, as stated.

So, what's in the tank? Does the tank have a skimmer?
