Help / Guidance / Advice ???

My current situation... Doing some remodeling of the house and decided to lay new tile throughout the ENTIRE house (minus the garage). This project is supposed to start next month.

I thought this would be a great time to upgrade to a new tank... so I purchased a Red Sea Reefer 625 XXL. So pumped! Should get here this week.

Then It has dawned on me, how do a plan for the breakdown of my current tank (125 gallon), moving and keeping most corals and livestock alive for a week while I assemble and get the new tank up and running. Not to mention where do I keep the temporary solution since the entire house is getting done. I heard some LFS can babysit your livestock... but do they do corals as well? Oh and to boot, I been running the triton other methods for a good 3 months or so. So don't know how that affects anything.

I have a 14 gal bio cube as well as a 32 gal one I can use to keep the corals/livestock if I decide to keep them myself but have some challenges there. I have a nice size Naso and a Sailfin that won't be too happy in the 32 gal. A large tub maybe?

Also, only planning to keeping some of the current rock and doing a new rock scape with new reef saver rocks. I have a big Marine Pure BioBlock and have a good amount of siporax I am about to put in to help with filtration of the new tank. Even with these, I'm guessing I have to cycle this tank?

I have good chaeto growing in my sump. Do I put chaeto in right away or should I wait a while?

Also running BioPellets, I should hold off on those for a bit?

Yes a lot of questions... I'm sure I have more. I'd appreciate any input.

If I were in that position, I would try
Buy or rent a rubbermaid tub, put it in the garage and set it up now. Throw all the rock, corals fish when it is time to remove the 125. Remodel the house, set up the red sea, scape it, cycle it with dr Tim's. Dont rush so you can get it the way you want it. Then move it all back.
Alternatively, you could move everything into temporary holding tanks and move the 125 to the garage and set it back up there

I've put off redoing my first floor flooring forever now, because of that whole operation. I don't have a garage, but would probably have to set something up in another room, maybe upstairs, it's quite an undertaking, I don't have much advice but good luck!!!

Sharpimage thanks for the reply. I think were I am heading is draining the 125 into bins with as much of the water from the tank, dump the sand since I'm going bare bottom, setting it back up in the garage with, and of course run the chiller. I'll do this for a month or so while I set up the 625. Thank way i can keep dosing triton and try keep it stable.

I will set up the 625 as soon as the tile cures in the living room. I will start cycling it with new salt water, 80% new rock and 20% existing rocks. I have a Marine Pure BioBlock that's been in my sump for years now which I'll transfer over. I also got a good amount of siporax which I am going to put in the sump now to start populating bacteria on it. I hear this stuff is great. I am hoping that in 2 weeks it will cycle and be good to transfer my livestock and corals from the 125. Planing on draining a good amount of water from the 625 and replacing it with the water from the 125. Thoughts on all this?

Also, chaeto gonna keep a small amount and see how it does. As for the biopellets I am on the fence. Thinking I should let the tank settle for a bit before I run that again.

Opinions or alternate options welcome.

Sounds like a solid plan. I wouldnt bother with changing the water from the 125 into

Sounds like a solid plan. I would bother with water from the 125 in the garage to the new tank. Very little bacteria in the water column.

Well reason for using the water from the 125 is since I'm dosing triton I wouldn't want to lose all the trace elements I'm dosing. Not really for the bacteria in the water.
