HELP.. Halide Bulb cracked.

I came home to the sight of only 1 out of 2 of my halide bulbs on...

When I went to pull out the one that wouldn't turn on it just crumbled in my hand.

The question I have is how long do I have to get another bulb before my corals become affected?

I have 2 zooanthids
1 frogspawn
1 green brain
1 green star polyp
1 squamosa clam

I have 322watts of actinic PC lighting on now. And unfortunately the ballast I have won't allow me to run only 1 MH. It runs both lights and if one isn't connected it won't turn on the other by itself.

Should I buy one at a high price from the LFS or do I have 2-3 business days to get one online for cheaper?

2 to 3 days should not be a problem
I would be more concerned about how the bulb shattered like that.

Cool!

I'll place an order.

I have no idea how they could have shattered like that... These are the first MH bulbs I've ever had. I hope this isn't normal.

Try talking to your local store about meeting you on a price somewhere in between. I try to buy local whenever possible, but sometimes the prices locally are way crazy high in comparison. On 'big ticket' items ($200+) I have had good experience talking to the manager about a deal where they can still make some money rather than no money. If your local store can make even $15 and make a customer happy, they usually do it, even if the shelf price will give them $100 profit. I have not used this method on $20 bottles of additives.....keeping money locally has it's cost, it's up to you to figure out when those costs are 'unreasonable'.
And what brand light failed? Can't see a name.

Good call.. I'll call them today before I order the new bulbs online.

They have been pretty good in the past.

The bulb is called "ReefGrow" It's a 10 000K 250W Double Ended Bulb.
