Help!!! how can I save this brain?

I had this brain for more than a year and it has been doing great until I one day decided to buy a regal angel that started nipping at the brain. I had the angel fish removed for a couple of months now but the brain keeps losing tissue and the tissue loss is spreading all over it now as it can be seen in the picture attached. I have started feeding the brain at night every other day trying to strengthen it a bit by feeding it more often, I dont know if that will help but its tentacles dont extend as much as they used to and it is still losing tissue fast I can see the difference in a 24hrs period.

I have the brain in a low flow medium lit spot. My water quality is perfect, zero phosphates and nitrates. How can i save this brain from dying?

Hello,
It's good that you are asking this quickly, because as we all know, time lost is brain lost. It is never good when you lose your brain, so the first thing I thought of is this: is anything messing with your brain? Are there any corals that are upstream near the brain? It looks like one side is being affected more than the other. Have you tried putting your brain somewhere else? A different flow pattern or light level may help. You may be surprised by what will fix your brain. Also, make sure you stay off the weed, but your nitrates and phosphates are at zero, so that should not be a problem...actually, some disolved organics in the water may help, come to think of it, so maybe the weed may be the answer after all.

Hope my convoluted answer helps,
Scott

Are the purple spots the affected area? I wouldnt move it if it has been happy there for a year also check at night to see if any corals or other predator is attacking it. What are your other tank parameters? Also have you made any changes lately that could have stressed the coral out?

Yes the purple spots actually they are white but because of the lighting they appear purple a bit in the picture. I havent done any changes other than the angel fish that i have already removed. It ate part of the brain and then the brain started to lose tissue around the area where the fish used to eat. I dont know if the fish nipping is related or if its just a coincidence. The same situation happened to me before to another brain long time ago but it was another coral eating the brain at night. I m gonna move the brain to a different location today and see what will happen.

that brain should recover. try doing some good sized water changes. Put in fresh carbon or chemi pure. Brains tend to get this way when they are in a contaminated water environment (high phostphate/nitrate/etc) and unable to recover. Clean water, decent flow, and simply feeding the fish usually will allow them to recover. What are your water parameters?

Zero phosphates and nitrates. The brain is still losing tissue so i moved it to another spot to see if it will recover. It seems like when a brain gets nipped at by fish or stung by another coral it gradually starts dying all over. I have an acan that also got nipped at by the same fish but has recovered in a couple of days.

+1

Found out from similar situation that moving the brain to a new location tends to help out a bit. Also found during a vacation when the person that was supposed to be "caring for my tank" didn't and the water got dirty (nitrate 2-3ppm, phosphate .06-.08) all my lps seemed to love the increased nutrients. My SPS not so much. But found a happy balance now at 1ppm nitrate and .04 phosphate and everything looks beautiful now.

If it continues you may want to try fragging a portion of the healthy part. There is a chance the healthy part will survive.

If your nutrients are at 0 and you want to get them a little higher you can feed more

What about dipping the brain in lugols iodine in case the brain got infected? I was thinking of fraging it but i never fragged a brain before thats why I m keeping that option as my last one cause i m worried if i try to frag it i mess it up.
