Hi, I am new to this hobby. I am thinking of getting a 30 gallon fish tank. Can you recommends a kit for me. Or any equipment I need. Also how much do you think it will cost total for the live rock and coral/plants. estimate please.

do you have a reef club in your area they are always a good help .

but as for a 30 gallon a all in one might be best to start Finnex 30m tank glass is a good tank.
JbJ has a 28 i think
if you get one of them you will still need to get a Ro-Di unit power head and i would get a phosphate reactor it helps alot when starting a new aquarium.

live rock or base rock substrate like live sand or even play sand or filter sand .
live sand to me is a waste of money . how can it really be live if you dont get it from the ocean or straight from someones tank.
test kits like nitrate ammonia nitrite alk calcium to start
if you get a all in one tank with a built in fuge like the finnex some macro algae would help also.

Take a look up at the top of this list of messages. You will find threads with a * in front of the title. Read all those and you will get the condensed version of everything you don't even know how to ask yet.

What you may want to consider is called an all-in-one rig. It's a get-your-feet wet sort of tank. Check out our sponsors in the blue area buttons. They're reputable dealers. You're talking under 500.00 to be totally set up with live things.

You need: dry sand; live rock; tank; light; skimmer; heater; pump. Ideally: downflow, sump, refugium. best yet: reef-ready tank with plumbing ready to connect. Not recommended: filter (fora reef), wet-dry, bioballs, crushed coral sand, canopy.

If you go, say, 50 g, with whole rig, ultra good gear, you can spend 3000.00. Wide range of options.

$25 to $50 per gallon seems to be the average cost to start up.

read, read, read and then read

Then go very slow... it will take months to set up a proper tank. If you need instant gratification this is not the right hobby.

Cheers and welcome to RC.

the new cad 39 gal looks really nice cones will just about all you need lights skimmer uv 500gph pump cooling fan

I am going to get the oceanic biocube with stand 387.000 total. my budget is 700.000? Will 313.00 be enough for the rest?

there are alot of people that have the bio cube imo i dont like the totaly inclosed lid and system the water gets to hot most people i know have the get a chiller for theirs and thats not in your budget with a open top you can have a fan blowing across it and keep the temps down mostly if you are running a Mh light

well live rock is about $6-7 a pound at the LFS cheaper on the web. you want about 1-1.5 lbs a gallon. snad is about a buck a pound. you will probably need 30 or so. you can buy saltwater from most LFS for about $.50 a gallon to start, but getting a ro/di and mixing it yourself will be cheaper in the long run. you will also need fresh ro water to replace evaporation. you can get it at the supermarket for about $.25-35 a gallon. that tank through the cycle. so you are looking at $300 before adding your first fish. but you will have a few weeks to save money for fish and livestock while the tank cycles 2-4 weeks. also you can save alot of money if you find a local club on here. for example i just got 50lbs of LR for $1.25 a pound from a guy that was moving. i see it in the local club here around $3 a pound all the time. if you can get your LR at that price you could have it cycling for under $150

im bios i would get the cad or the finnex but i do have a 24 gal ap with the 150watt mh lighting i love it also just doesnt come with a skimmer and the other stuff like the cad and finnex does

as for rock where are you from and do they have a local reef club

or look at www.bulkreefsupply.com they have some nice dry figi at a good price and shipping isnt bad either

you can go to www.airwaterice.com for a rodi unit they have a small one for around 100 dollars its a four stage ro di

the finnex with the t5 lighting will run 344 plus shipping but if you email them they might give you a break on the price or a discount of 25 dollars
