Ok so I watched some YouTube videos about cleaning the sand bed. A few said use a python type system but put the hose in the filter sock to recycle the water. In the videos this worked very well so thought I'd give it a try. About half way thru and this is what I have

I'm worried about my fish being in this bad of a cloud. I wasn't expecting this as it didn't happen in the videos. Any advice?

Not to worry, the dust will settle down and the fish should be ok. I have created similar by cleaning my sump and dumping the water back n and the DT got quite cloudy. This to shall pass.

After it settles out, you might want to check your nitrate level.

How many microns is that filter sock you have? What your seeing is basically just detritus that has been broken down into dust. It's nothing to worry about IME, but the next time you do this you might want to pass on straining the water through a filter sock. Just siphon the dirty water into a bucket and be done with it.

Just got done messing with my tank too and looks the same. Never has bothered anything, but I do take a turkey baster to the rocks and stuff when it clears some.

Thanks for all the quick replies and yes I've already decided next time it will just be a big water change all the dirty water will be gone. However most of the cloud seemed to be caused from the sand in the tank.
The filter sock I used was the BRS felt one and I think some of the sand did get thru it cause the sump was very cloudy as well.. Hopefully it clears fairly quickly I need to clean the rest of the sand bed lol half clean half dirty looks worse than all of it looking bad lol
