help I need Metronidazole!!

where can I buy liquid Metronidazole??

I introduced a fish from another healthy established aquarium that had not had any additions for months. I judged it to be very low risk but I was wrong. I now have ich with all my fish. of course, the least affected seems to be the new guy.....

I have 9 fish and I am reluctant to dismantle the reef in order to hospitalize them; however, I am preparing a 40 breeder for this purpose if it become necessary.

before hospitalization, I would like to try feedeing the fish medicated food. I had great sucess with this some years ago when Metronidazole medicated flake was available from Tetra.

My fish are agressive eaters of a variety of foods, I so I plan to soak flakes in Metronidazole and feed for several weeks. I am also using garlic but I do not think this will be totally effective.


Does anyone know where I can buy some liquid Metronidazole?

Metronidazole is EXTREMELY bitter at a dose that will have the required effect (10,000 ppm). I've used a top dressing of fish oil to try and mask the taste, but even that sometimes doesn't work. I've seen fish actually swim away from metro treated food(grin).

really? well i'd like to try but the 40 gal is almost ready. The only stuff I see is the seachem powder. Any other suggestions?

I could gut load some brine like the sea horse keepers do.

The key is the dose. The old Tetra flake food was accepted well by fish, but the dose was much lower, and probably not therapeutic. Also, my recollection is that metronidazole is not soluble in water, so "liquid metronidazole" would actually have to be a suspension.

I've used ethanol to dissolve medications and then soaked that into pellet and flake foods - where using water would result in a gloppy mess. HOWEVER, I have NOT done that with with metronidazole - some meds might be deactivated by alcohol.
