Help I think I got flatwormS!

I just did a large water change in my nano tank (5 gal change in a 12 gal tank) and the next day I noticed hundreds of flatworms on the glass!!! The only way I can possibly think of them coming is from the reef crystals water I bought at Old orchard aquarium??!!! Is this possible? Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of them?

Yes possible. Can try flatworm exit. Didn't work for me and I did a 10x dose. But they are confined to my fuge for some reason so I don't care. Good luck...

Make sure that you siphon out as many as possible before using the FWE because a large amount of dead flatworms could very easily release enough toxins (from the flatworms themselves) that could poison a small tank such as your nano.

You purchased water or the "reef crystals" salt ?
If water - was this water from a reef tank or newly mixed ?

Any body have a pic of a flatworm? I have some small white worm looking things on my black overflow and in my fuge.

I always bring in my 5 gal jug to the store and they give me reef crystals saltwater already premixed, its like $1.25 a gal... I dont have an ro unit yet and for now My 75gal isnt running yet so Its not that expensive.....

Are there any natural preditors of flatworms that I can buy? I cant really syphon them because they are all pretty much on the glass.... and I would prefer not to use the chemicals if there is another way.

If you have a sandbed, they are in there too.

6-line wrasse maybe? I actually think my radiant wrasse ($$$) is what keeps them out of the display though I am wary of the day when they become too much. I can't see how they would be confined to the fuge and not make it to the sump or display. So maybe the radiant is particularly good at eating them?

I dont think it could have been the water from old orchard. I buy that water sometimes too. Its not in any systems, its just mixed to sell.

You can siphon them out by placing a filter sock on the end of a tube, start the siphon with a powerhead. Run the water into a bucket, and siphon them off the glass. When your done you can put the water back in the tank. Clean the filter sock, and your ready for the next time. They really come off the glass easy this way. I've been doing this for a few weeks now, trying to get as much as possible before I put the flat worm exit in.

Good Luck!

Im runnin a bare bottom tank, and I do have a six line wrasse already but im not sure if he is eating them or not, I will try yo syphon them out. though....

as for the radiant wrasse, do you think he will be fine in a 12 gal temporarily for a few months? I think im already pushing the limits with two fish in a 12.... I wouldnt mind gettin the radiant wrasse but im not sure if he will get along with the 6line.

yeah ist hit or miss with wrasse velvet nudies are the only for sure predator good luck

So once all the flatworms are dead the velvet nudie starves correct? perhaps I can buy one and pass it on in the forum when he is done doing his job

I found a picture of them. That is not what I have I think that what I have is tiny featherdusters. Where I saw the pic it said a leopard wrasse eats them, and that the six line, target mandarin and the blue damsel may eat them.
