(sorry for the double post... wanted to add the link with the photo. tried to delete other post.. but denied)

Are you concerned about the white powder on the fish or just the stuff on the rocks? If you think something is up with the fish I would worry the fish have velvet. It is quickly fatal if not treated so if they have had that powder look to them for some time it is probably not it. My fish have never had it so hopefully someone else can comment.

The stuff on the rocks look like sponge and I think it is OK.

I'm concerned about everything... but mostly for my fish.

The fish have looked like that for over 2 weeks now.

The rocks have looked like that for much longer. But, the white puffy things are growing everywhere. I just don't like it.

Thank you for your response!

The white puffs on the liverock appear to be sponges, nothing to worry about.

The fish on the other hand concern me. My first guess was velvet, like fingersdlp. But, if they had suffered from velvet for two weeks, they would likely be dead by now. I wonder if they had some sort of adverse reaction to the pepper treatment? Have you seen any rapid breathing, anything more than 1 per second?

Ok.. so, I've nothing to worry over with the sponge. They are just ugly to look at.

Flamehawk always appear to breath fast. The purple tang doesn't seem to be breathing fast. The puffer does appear to be breath fast.

This situation became apparent right after I treated/sedated my puffer with clove oil in order to clip its teeth.

All fish looked perfect before I clipped puffer's teeth.

I clipped the puffers teeth almost a month ago. I started using Kent RXP a week ago.

So, I'd say the fish have looked like this for over 3 weeks now.

Are they eating and otherwise acting normal? Where the other fish exposed to the clove oil or only the puffer? Have you tested the ph? Do you run ozone? Does the tang flash against the rock more than usual?

Sorry for just questions I am not sure what it is.

The fish look like they have good weight - not too skinny.

If they are eating then I would wonder if it is something environmental like too high orp or high/low ph. Just fishing (pun intended).

If it was me I might consider a fresh water dip (ph and temp adjusted) of one of the fish to see if it drops any parasites. Not a cure but could help in diagnosis.

They are all eating very well. Like pigs actually.

Sorry for just questions I am not sure what it is.

Thats OK.. thats what I've been doing.. questioning EVERYTHING!

Thankfully, they've good weight. I make sure I feed them what they like. Frozen Brine, Frozen Vitamin A, Krill soaked in XTREME garlic.

I test my water conditions daily... and its really good. I just CANNOT figure out whats going on with the fish. This problem came on so suddenly (just after the clipping of puffer's teeth).

AND today I noticed a lump on puffer... side.. towards the underbelly. Any idea what a lump means?

If it was me I might consider a fresh water dip (ph and temp adjusted) of one of the fish to see if it drops any parasites. Not a cure but could help in diagnosis.

Even with finding a lump on puffer... would you still recommend doing a fresh water dip? Will this help with the lump?

Thanks for responding! Any help/advice is REALLY WELCOMED!!!!

I am very comfortable with fresh water dips - in fact I had to dip my flame hawk when I got him as he had gill flukes. I would try to dip the flame hawk as he should be eaiser to catch and a hardy fish. Only if it dropped parasites would I consider it for the other fish.

I don't think it would help with a lump. Could be an internal parasite?

Anyway with fish eating well it is a tough call, but 3 weeks seems like you have shown patience. I would probalby dip the hawkfish and go from there but the last thing I want to do is give you bad advice. Maybe someone else can comment?

FWIW I have never lost a fish to a fresh water dip but not everyone agrees on them.

I don't know if showing patience is a good thing or not.

I suppose I've not done a fresh water bath as of yet is... I was trying to limit the amount of stress to the fish.

But... with the ongoing problems... I'm not sure if I'm limiting the stress or making it worse?

Thanks for affording me your time and advice!!!

I am also thinking that the puffer showing a lump may be some secondary problem related to the stress of the first.

Good luck.

I'm thinking the same. I'm not sure if puffer was stressed before I clipped its teeth.. as its teeth were really overgrown. Puffer stopped biting on things... that would keep its teeth filed down.

I'm not sure if the clove oil is/became the problem?

I just remembered... thought I'd share....

Lately puffer has been sleeping/resting right up against the power head (in tank). Puffer rest/sleeps facing upward... belly against tank wall and smack up against the power head.
I actually thought the puffer was stuck to it.. as if the power head was sucking him in... I put some food in there and puffer went right for it. NOT STUCK.

Anyway... this lump is on the same side.. where puffer was resting on the power head.

Thank you for wishing me luck... as I definitely need all I can get.
If not for my bad luck.. it seems as of late.. I have NO luck.

Thanks again!
