I do not know what is going on I had this seahorse for about 2 months, it was in my main tank but we moved him yesterday to an 18g nano. He eats live Ghost shrimp well, an hour ago he was fine but I came earlier to feed him and saw something on his belly like open tissue I do not if he is pregnant, about to give birth, an infection??????
Please help me.
My husband thinks that the tank needs to cycle and this morning it had some amonia and my husband dosed it with amequil.

I have attached a couple of pictures to see if you can ID the problem, Thanks in advance:

Not sure what it is. Really hard to tell from the pictures. It appears to possibly be feces as that is about where the anal opening is.

I can tell that you are running your temp a little high. It should be down around 74-75.

You are more likely to find someone who knows what is wrong at www.seahorse.org. They will want to know all of your water parameters and if he is eating and what tankmates he has. If your tank is cycling you should be doing daily water changes.

This appears to be feces. If he is not exibiting any unusual behavior, rapid respiration, etc then this is most likely what it is.

I am a bit confused. Is this tank not cycled? If not, you need to remove all stock until the cycling process is completed and the tank is stable.

Btw, that is a beautiful horse.

Just curious....WHY would you take this beautiful seahorse from your main tank and put it in an 18g tank if it was doing well in the main tank??

BTW... seahorses are not solitary animals and really do better with more than one.

Well my main tank is 125g with a lot of big fish and corals and alots of flow, He gets beat up and thrown by my powerheads all the time even though he has gorgonians and things to hold on to, plus he eats live food, when I try to feed him all the other fish steals his food.
By the way he is not going to be alone I have 2 more seahorses they will be joining him when the tank cycles.
I put the seahorse back in my main tank because of the amonia and nitrates.

Thanks for replying.

Thats a very small tank for one horse of that size, but may be manageable if you are very diligent with tank maintenance and water changes. It will be big trouble if you add two tank mates. Such a small tank just can't handle that kind of bioload.

Defintely wait until your tank is fully cycled. Also, with a tank that size at most you can keep are 2 seahorses. I have a 125 with 10 seahorses and it is wonderful. Maybe you might want to move some of your other fish instead of your seahorse. Also, your temp is definitely high. Is this a wild caught or CB seahorse?
