Hi all,

I purchased this wrasse on Wednesday from a LFS. They had it listed as a Poseidon wrasse. Normally, i like to know exactly what I am buying, but since i hadn't seen one before i couldn't pass it up. I can't find any info online for poseidon wrasse, so hopefully you guys can help out. I think its Haliochromis something.

Doesn't even look like a wrasse to me... the mouth structure seems off. Looks more like a juvenile grunt or sea bass of some sort. It does have the dorsal fin that runs head to tail, but again, doesn't look like a wrasse to me at all so I'm probably looking for more signs that it's not a wrasse than signs that it is.

interesting observation davelin and Blake. Possibly some type of basslet. he hid in the sand from weds until saturday aternoon, so in that pic he was still pretty drab. I will see if I can get a better one with more coloration soon. Thanks for your input so far.

H. prosopeion for sure; its just a somewhat young individual. Cool looking fish as they mature and develop more purple coloration.

If he was IN the sand he is a wrasse for sure. These is something rather pseudo looking about that pic but I still think its a two tone wrasse. Very nice looking fish.

Well you got your answer it will get to be a cool purpely color. He is usually never wrong as he Knows his fish very well.
