I'm new to the hobby. I have a 20 gallon aquarium that has been doing well. I introduced one piece of rock recently (dipped it for a few minutes) but now I see semi transparent tube like structures (3) growing out of 3 separate holes. They do not seem to be affected by light. They don't move - just slowly growing.
There is a green star polyp behind it (the purple branch-like structures you see). It's doing very well.
