I have some kind of brown sps that came in as a hitch-hiker on some zooanthids. I thought it would die or grow slowly, so I left it alone(nano without strong light), but it has been flourishing. It sort of looks like montipora comparing it to other pictures, except it is pretty much flush with the rocks it is on, with occasional "plates" sticking out. The problem is it grows fast, and totally overtook the zoo. rock it came on...that was bad enough, but now it has gotten onto my prized ricordia rock, and is stinging them off. I cant really pick it off since it is flush with the rock, only the plate bits that stick out break off easily. Any idea on how to kill it off? (I tried doing a search but it is disabled)

Sounds like a millepora of some kind ie Fire coral. Is it mustard in color with hairlike projections along its tissue? A pic would be great if you can provide one.

You can mix up some calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser, pickling lime) to the thickness of slightly less than toothpaste. Using an old test syringe apply the solution to the portion of the coral you cannot remove. The solution will harden almost on contact and kill the coral and nearby surrounding tissue. It will also create a barrier between the corals. If you see tissue you missed, reapply the solution to the new areas.
Be sure to rinse the syringe after use or the solution will harden in it like stone.

Regards,
Kevin
