Help!!! Issues with MP40

I was watching the tank and just saw the wet side come out of place and falling to the bottom of the tank. Immediately the driver started blinking red and then green. I put the wet side in place once again, but the driver continues with the blinking and the pump stop working. I've tried to hold the Mode and Set buttons together, but it doesn't do anything.

Any ideas on what could be the problem and how to fix it?

First of all, is your spacing set correctly for the thickness of your glass?

The only reason the wet side is falling off, your spacing is not set correctly.

Once you have readjusted your spacing correctly on your MP 40, the wet side should stay in place.

I would also power cycle your MP 40 and see if that solves your error / red and green blinking problem.

If you problem still persists, I would then call into the tech support center for further assistance.

Thanks,
Randy

This the e-mail I sent to ecotech support:

I have an issue with my recently bought Vortech MP40. I have it running for about a week, when suddenly the wet side start spinning from its base and then deattached falling to the bottom of my tank. After that the driver start blinking red and green. I checked the wet side and seems the propel is not spinning easily, seems a little stucked. In additon, the magnet in the wet side is not as strong as the beggining, not sure if it has to do with the propel being tight right now.

I forgot to add that the cable was properly aligned with the glass thickness, so I don't think that is the issue. Hopefully they get back to me soon.

As a FYI, the nut on the propeller shaft should only be finger tight. If that nut is too tight, it will most definitely effect the operation of the MP 40 wet side.

See if the nut comes off by using your fingers, it not, then its way to tight.

Avenger,

Does the pump continue to flash red/green without the wetside attached? Have you tried powering down the pump then powering it back on? Also, on the wetside do you see any type of scoring or scratching on the magnet?

I just power on the pump without the wet side and I get the normal continuos green set-up I had, so it seems the problem is when it connects to the wet side only. I did tried to power down and on the pump but get the same blinking. I don't see any visible issues with the magnet, however if I gently shake the wet side it sounds like if the magnet got loose, not sure if that's normal as this is my first unit though. Also, the propel seems to be a little tight, maybe it was caused when the wet side deattached. So I think I might have two issues, the magnet not in place causing the wet side to spin and then somehow cause some tightness when it hit the tank. Anyway, seems to me that wet side is broken.

Avenger,

I would recommend giving the wetside a good cleaning. Start by soaking the wetside in a 50/50 hot water and vinegar solution, then disassembling and cleaning all components of the wetside thoroughly.

Ok. Is it normal for the magnet in the wet side to be loose or should it be glued to the base? Asking this because mine is that way, so I am wondering if it had any glue before, I can see there is a screw in the middle of the magnet.

The magnet needs to be free spinning and secured with the end nut to the shaft.

Gluing your magnet to the base, will ruin your wetside.

Thanks for the confirmation mypepper. So, no idea what's wrong with the wet side. I already contacted my retailer to get another wet side, as it is still with warranty.
