is it the dreaded keyhole limpet?

the longer I am in this "hobby" the more I understand - I have no clue!!! what is a poccilliopora? I guess it is a SPS - which I have recently (1 year ago) started . Hope they do not hurt clams, I have 10+.

According to several books I have read on reefkeeping (corals and clams) the keyhole will eat soft and stony corals and occasionally clam mantles & (exposed) byssal glands. I have a Crocea in the tank that has not yet begun boring into the rock but has attached. I was(and am!) worried for my first clams health. How do I get rid of them (limpets)? I love clams & corals and dont want to put more in if they'll just die.

yupper! it's an sps with small frilly polyps. The only way I know to get rid of them is to pry them off the rocks with a screwdriver, scrape them off the glass with a razor blade and scoop them off the sand bed. These little suckers really clamp down when messed with. Mine came as hitchikers from gulfviewliverock.com.

Limpets can be hit or miss. Some graze on algae and others will eat your corals. I had one eat half of my sarcophyton before I could get rid of them. I either use a scalpel to pull them off the rock or just wiggle them back and forth with your thumb and first finger to release them.. They do grip pretty well so it won't be easy to do this. I either feed them to my anemone or just cut them out of their shell and feed them to my fish. They love them!
