Help!!! Magnesium is over 1500

Seems like a lot of algae for 3 months. High phosphates maybe?
My phosphate reading was .25 with API. Hanna Checker revealed a 1.41 reading . Took me 2 months with GFO to get it to .04
In all that time i had just one tiny spot of hair algae.

And most refactometers instructions say to calibrate with RO water but it is better to calibrate with known calibrating solution.
my old tank i though was at 1.023 after i calibrated with solution it was actually 1.020.( for 7 years or so)

Is this solution available in LFS? and should i set it to 1.026 with the solution?

Also any suggestions on GFO ? for a 30G tank?
btw: My tank doesnt have much algae except for one live rock which has algae at the tip however my Protein skimmer has lots of algae..

We need to try and calibrate, if the device can handle it, as close to the target we are trying to test for. In this case 53mS/35ppt and also note that is at a specific temperature as well.

thanks i will go through the link.

I had other few questions?
Can i use my Aqueon HOB UV Sterilizer?

I ve never tried GFO / have no knowledge. i have a sumpless 30G FOWLR with HOB skimmer.

should i use a HOB Phosphate reactor? any links to find out one?

I would make sure your phosphate is high before buying equipment maybe use another brad test kit. Simple water changes will lower the PO4.
but test kits are notorious for hard to read PO4 results . Thats why i opted for the Hanna checker.... can't beat a digital read out.

Hi Guys,

I bought the Hanna checker low Phosphate test kit and it shows .16ppm of phosphate..last week i did a clean up of my tank and live rocks and got rid of all the algae but this .16ppm might cause algae problem i guess. please let me know what should be my next course of action to reduce the phosphate.

.16ppm is a bit high and will have faster algae growth. To lower them you have some options. Below .03ppm Is the target. No one really knows where that number came from but I notice that when my glass needs more frequent cleaning I'm at .05 ppm and time to change my GFO.

You could do some water changes, add a refugium or get some kind of phosphate removal media like GFO( fastest for me).
I use GFO reactor from Bulk Reef Supply.
Here is a link for just about all you want to know about phosphate.( Export section is what you can scroll down to for some info on lowering PO4)

Thanks i have to buy something that i can use without sump and BRS mini reactor looks good but i have to pay almost half price as part of shipping to Canada thats the worst part.

i did 10 gallon water change(~33%) for my 30Gallon and it reduced my phosphate from .16 to .03 (Hannah Checker).. I already ordered a mini reactor to run Carbon and GFO together as recommended by BRS for mini reactor. hope that gets my phosphates down to 0 if not lowest...
