Help me choose a fish for my 14 gal nano with Crushed Coral.

The tank is 14 gallons total. I have crushed coral. I've read the cons but I like it so it will stay hehehe! So no sand sifters, like gobies right? I'm not sure if its too coarse for them.

I am thinking a Royal Gramma or a Yellow Assessor. Maybe 3 or 4 neon or shark nose gobies since you never see them in big tanks.

This tank will also house my pair of clowns and their new nem.

If you are planning on having a pair of clowns in a 14 gallon tank, I wouldn't plan on any other fish. Would be concerned about any hosting anemone outgrowing that tank is short order.

I see. The nem I realize may be problematic.

Even one more small fish? Thanks for the advice Todd.

What type of clowns? (( most have a nasty habit of becoming very aggressive once they start spawning ))

What type of anemone?

The last E. quadricolor (( BTA )) that I had was 15" across, even after splitting, I personally wouldn't put one in a 14 gallon.

I would only consider the gobies, and be prepared to move them when/if they clowns become too aggressive.

Other than enough light and having to move the Nem when it gets too large any other issues with the nem? I could just sell the nem.

My experience with BTAs is they require very pristine water quality, treat them just like an SPS imo.

So if you think you might have a hard time keeping water quality top notch in a small tank (which is hard due to how fast a small body of water can alter when compared to a large body) then it might be a little bit of a trial keeping that thing going.

But as long as you're a dedicate aquarist who can do regular water changes and keep that thing topped off like every 2 days, you shouldnt have issues beyond the eventual size of the anemone.

OK, I think with that in mind I will just go with a few neon gobies as to keep the bioload down as much as possible and prevent any future aggression from the clowns or whatever fish I would add.

I've kept my haddoni nem for a couple years now so I can handle the husbandry I just have to make sure I don't get lazy with this one.

Thanks again guys.

If by "a few" you mean a mated pair, it could work. I agree with Todd though that you may have to remove them once the clowns start spawning.

Thanks for the advice, I've had more than a pair of them in the past but always in a much larger tank. I will go with a pair of Yellow Line Gobies if I can find them again and make sure to note any aggression overtime.

A LFS in my area gets the ORA gobies a lot, just usually the shark nose or neon.
