Help me design my new 260 - 280 gallon custom tank

Ok,

So I am submitting final specs today for my custom tank and would appreciate any and all input.

Here are the dimensions
84x30x26 (maybe a little taller--thoughts?) starphire front and ends. PVC bottom.

I was thinking of doing either two small external overflows or a 36' external coast to coast overflow---thoughts?

I plan on running vortech so I was not planning on having it drilled for closed loop. Thanks for your input.

Mike

I think the "coast-to-coast" overflow is the better way to go. Two overflows can get tricky to manage. Plus I heard Anthony Calfo speak and one of his points is that you get better protein export if you can get the top water of the tank to come off in a sheet.

I like the dimensions. 24" can look a little short on a big tank, but I think 30" will be hard to clean (one of the things I am worried about with my tank - 96" X 30" X 30"). I think 26" will be just right!

Not sure if you submitted the specs yet, but figured I would give some feedback. Keep us posted on the build- should be awesome!

My tank is 84" long, 28" front to back, and 32" tall.. Even though I have it as an aggressive tank I decided on a higher tank because I have a 4" sand bed which makes the top of the tank 28" high from the sand line, which is easier to clean...

Also I didn't do a coast to coast on mine, I chose a different design that has two 6"x6" boxes that stick into the tank about 2.5" that the water overflows and out PVC in the back of the tank.. Although a Coast to Coast would have been nice. I would go with that instead if I did it all over again.

Just what I did and how I thought.

Thanks Erik

Who is building the tank?

Is it possible to get the coast to coast overflow made externally?

If I were to get my dream tank it would be a rimless (limits me on size unfortunately) coast to cost external starphire tank.

But please post pictures when you get it. And the dimensions seem perfect to me.

I have a 310 gallon (96x24x31) that I am looking to sell. 110 gallon fuge, 90 gallon tank with extra live rock for added filtration, T5's, 300+ lbs of Fiji Totoka ($$$$), 100+ lbs of large Tonga branches, Sequence Hammerhead, 2 - 70 gallon storage tanks (salt and RO/DI), RO/DI filter, ASM G4x skimmer, GEO 624 reactor, various livestock, etc.

I ordered a new tank (96x48x30) but it won't be done soon enough for me to transfer over everything prior to our move. I also have a truck and trailer for transport.

PM me if you are interested.

If it is the Schedule 80 PVC it has to be A.G.E in Austin. Beautiful tanks but pricey!
