ok Semi-newbie here been a long time since had a tank. This is a joint effort with the wife who does a lot of the daily maintenance with the tank which is a plus! I don't know what other info anyone will need other than:
65 gallon
50ish lbs of live rock
50lbs of live sand
going to do a moderate amount of soft corals and maybe one or two sps that I like and maybe a zoa or two and a anemone.
I have been doing a lot of reading and have seen people stock their tanks from 4-5 up to 9 fish in the same size tank and similar set up.
This is what we have now.
2 per clowns
1 yellow head goby pistol shrimp pair
1 starry blenny
1 yellow fin angel

how many more can I safely add, would love to add another angel but afraid of them fighting.
A few we have eyes on
-purple firefish
-file fish (bristle tail )
-red scooter dragonet (prob a no b\c tank is young but i like them)
-any suggestions would be GREAT ! thanks I also did post this in the newbie forum but was suggested I come here as well.

If you like the dragonet, I'd consider just staying patient and waiting for the tank to mature enough to have it.

No experience with a file fish. The firefish is pretty timid and may have a hard time adjusting to the existing fish. Once established, clowns and pygmy angels can make it difficult to add fish.

the clowns have been there since the beginning the angel is on order, so it will be a while before I get her. I would like to try to add most of the last fish at once. Im trying to find a good solid number to shoot for in the tank. Also LFS has had some good luck with just adding the copa pods once a week to feed the dragonets.

The price of copepods will make feeding a dragonet expensive; they do, however, eat mysis although that would not be enough to sustain one.

yea I will just have to wait till later on if i decide to add one , any suggestions on what other fish to add, or what would be a good solid number of fish.

I see no prob with the desired stock list, I would just wait a while for the scooter. Purple firefish or any firefish are pretty scrappy and can handle pretty aggressive fish. I have my firefish with damsels and a flameback angel and no one messes with him. My starry blenny is pretty aggressive, I am afraid to add a large goby so I stuck with a neon goby.

so you think adding the file fish and a firefish to the current stock would be ok? the wife loves the file fish and what I have read those are very passive.

I think you will be fine, you need to keep an eye on the filefish since they can nip at corals (zoas and other lps). I would not consider them reef safe imo. As for stocking together with the firefish i doubt you will have issues.

I would definitely try to add the firefish before the angel if possible. If they get comfortable in a tank, they will do very well.

would adding them at the same time help ? I don't have angel yet and could pick them up at the same time.

that is the big draw back on the file, I would like to add another angel like a rusty angel but I have heard a big no no on trying to keep two, do you have any suggestions on what to add or what to look for ?

That would definetely be better then adding the angel first, however instead of adding 3-4 fish all at once and struggling to keep up with the bioload, why don't you add the firefish first. They never show any aggression to any fish other then their own species. This way you slowly increase your bioload and are still free to add anything after.

Two angels in a 60 is a bad combo. Why not look into wrasses?

we have discussed them, she didnt like the six line at the lfs but just now liked the one liveaquaria. I like the mystery wrasse a lot but kinda would like to get something smaller, like the six line.

we have the 2 clowns, watchman, and starry blenny now. The reason why I wanted to add a few at once is b\c of the Angel. I ordered this week so should be in at the lfs in about two weeks.

From personal experience i had a yellow corisse and pencil wrasse with my flame back and both did awesome. You will need to keep an eye on your angel, there is always a chance it will challenge whatever wrasse you throw in. I had to watch my flame back when I added a yellow corisse, then trap it for a small period of time to let the wrasse develop a territory without the angel chasing it.

do you think they would do ok if added together ? Man this is gonna be harder than I thought !

Pseudocheilinus spp. wrasses can be bullies, especially six-lines. Flashers are peaceful and well-suited to your size aquarium.
