Black false occellaris

Black false occellaris

These are my tank raised occellaris pair. I think they are as close to perfect specimens as I have seen in the last couple of years (of course this may be a biased opinion). How would you like some of the fry when they finally mate?

I possibly have a few pairs of wild caught black occ's my lfs has coming in. I know for a fact they are wild caught, as i talked to the collector. Just if they my lfs got them or someone else did is the question.

Where did they get collected from?
It is my understanding the only man that collected these, was eaten by a croc while collecting.
I have heard that nobody is collecting these now.
I would do alot of research on "true" wildcaught black clowns before I jusy buy a pair.
A pair of true Wild Caught Black Clowns should run $200 and up.

Darwin, AU,
The guy that was collecting this was eaten afaik, but this guy is brave i guess. Each pair is costing me more than $200, i'm not going to mention how much more, but they are not cheap. I have been waiting a long time and have done alot of research in trying to aquire these clowns, we will see what happens in the next couple days.

Ok. The full story.

Gove (Nhulunbuy) is a few hundred km's to the East of Darwin as can been seen on the map.

As you already know the Black & White Occies are endemic to Darwin Harbour and across the North as far as I know.

There is a local breeder who has successfully been able to produce them in sufficient quantities to supply the aquarium market. The ones that you guys have most likely originated from him.

My LFS has them in from time to time and when I setup my new Cube I will be sourcing a pair from him or maybe a wild caught pair.

I have seen an older breeding pair from him and they have the blackest, black that I have ever seen on any aquarium fish.

yeah i would love to have a pair of these also when i get a little more experienced, but curious which is harder to find picasso or black clowns?

picasso types are tank breed by ORA, However I have had a few wild caught ones with patterns such as them. And as far as what you term black clowns, Tank breed black and white ocellaris are easyy to find as well as tank breed onyx percs. The wild caught onyx are found ever so often, however black and white wild caught ocellaris are rare from my personal experiences.

They have a male fish which has the pattern similar to all the picassos that you see, and then a female fish which is just the onyx coloration. When clowns breed the fry typically take on the coloration and patterns of the male.

hence all of ORAs picasso type clowns.

ORA doesn't deal to the private sector. You're going to have to go to your LFS, ask them to order you some picassos, and they'll end up on ORA's waiting list.
