I got this clam yesterday. I was under the impression when I bought it that it was a crocea. After reading an article in ReefKeeping mag, Im starting to wonder if it isnt a maxima. Please, someone help me out
the most obvious way to tell is by the mantle coloration and pattern. if that confuses you then you look at the shell. maximas usually have scutes while croceas are smooth due to their rock boring nature, all the scutes are worn. if you cannot tell by looking at the shell, then you need to take a look at the bysal opening. if you still can't tell, then you call it a hybrid lol

Just being new to this clam keeping thing ( 6 days ), I wondered if someone could do a thread with some pics, pointing out the features on each one that you use to ID?
Also, how do I tell if my new clam is doing OK or not? Any signs things are going well, or badly?
