Help me...im drinking...

This hobby can be started on a small budget. Frag swaps are key to your success. Read a lot to avoid spending money unnecessarily. Try not to kill anything in the tank and buy the best you can afford at the time.

I would go with these: 40g breeder (36"x18"x16"), 50g (36"x18"x18", 120g (48"x24"x24"), or 180g (72"x24"x24"), though I feel a 180g would be too much tank for a newbie (such as myself).
-Notice how on the tanks I picked out, the height dimension never exceeds the width dimension, and the width dimension is always 18" or more. These dimensions will make the tank seem alot roomier, plus it gives you alot more variance in aquascaping plus room for good circulation. Remember, reefs in the wild are more like fields than bookshelves, so you want lots of width to play with.
-Research before you buy. Equipment is expensive enough as it is, and you don't want to have to find out 6 months down the road when you want to start keeping more delicate corals that you need a new skimmer that is 1.5-3x more expensive than your current one. Basically, buying good quality equipment in the beginning and sticking with it/ not having to change it out saves money in the long run and your reef is more likely to thrive.

Sorry about that, went of topic there. But basically I would go with 40g, 2nd choice 120g. Water changes would not be that big and good quality equipment not too expensive.
Good Luck!

ROFLMAO!!

Im just curious how many pages back you had to go to dig up a TWO YEAR OLD THREAD on these CMAS forums....

WOW.:eek2:

I remember jepuskar... Been gone a long time. Last post: 08/09/2007 at 11:35 AM

I wish the avatars were static in the threads and someone could find the thread where everyone copied his avatar pic. Either that or find and post the "screamed like a little girl" thread.

I got this email earlier stating someone replied to my post on ReefCentral...I said...what the heck. Someone got some time on their hands.

I never did get a tank, but I still pop into a fish store when I'm near one. I think eventually I will get one and it will most likely be something small...like my male organ.

I used to be called Bubbles? I dont remember that.

I do remember a Tony..right? Crazy dude that used to organize bus trips to everyones home to have fish orgys.

Not a rumor...fact. I love Bangdick.

+1 for 40g breeder. Perfect first tank. Short, so one 175 or 250 halide will be enough, and very manageable without being so small you have to do water changes every week.

I am against the biocube designs. There is essentially no way to modify it and most of the components on the ones I've seen are pretty half-***. After a year or so when you upgrade to a 125 or something, your 40 breeder can be turned into anything--frag tank, sump, quarantine tank, refugium, etc...

Actually, what I'm going to go with is a 2 gallon Starphire tank with about 9 Purple tangs, 3 puffers, and about 100 snails.

It would, but buoyancy is much different and also..if you do a lot of saw tooth profiles...that's not going to work out to well with it.

With a rebreather its ideal if you don't change depths that often otherwise you will use up a lot of gas.

Yeah, I'll probably never dive with one but I do find them interesting.

Do you know anyone interested in buying an UW photograohy system?
