Help me name my mantis

I'm going to run the name by the kids tomorrow. Once they give their approval, I'll post on here with kudos! It's actually not one that has been suggested but it inspired by one of the suggestions! I think the kids will go for it, and I think it's perfect. :D

I know you have a name now but my mantis is called "Wee Git" cause he never comes out of his hole (still haven't managed to get a picture for ID purposes). Just sits there watching us, teasing...the wee git ;)

A name that someone suggested for my mantis was Cookit which is what they said when I told them I had a mantis shrimp. At least I think they were suggesting a name and not something else...hmmmm :D

OK, I was looking up the names that Thurge suggested, since I am a mythology idiot!!! I was particularly interested in the story of Amphitrite, when I came across the name Scylla. I did some some research and discovered that Scylla was transformed into a hideous sea monster, who lives under a large rock (some accounts state that she eventually turned into a dangerous ragged rock outcropping) terrorizing sailors and fisherman. I thought it was fitting, and since Scylla is even in her species name, I was able to discuss her binomial nomenclature and teach a wee bit of mythology at the same time. The sixth and eighth graders were on board, but the seventh graders protested...darn trouble makers...lol. They claimed that it didn't really suit her, because she doesn't terrorize anything...not even crabs and snails. They were overruled though, so...

Scylla, it is!

And here she is terrorizing (NOT!!) her molly friend. I love this pic because it makes the molly look huge in comparison to the mantis....lol. The molly is a large male (as mollies go) but he's actually about 6-7" closer to the camera than Scylla is. Funny pic, I thought

Good Golly, Mr. Molly!!!

Enjoy!

LOL...she has finally lived up to her name, BTW. No more SMS (Sissy Mantis Syndrome) here. I see evidence of whacking on a hermit crab and she has ended the life of one very unfortunate cerith snail. Woo Hoo!!! I think she's finally settling into her new home. She sassed one of the kids today.
