HELP me with picking a camera with your tank pics.
Hello everyone. I am in the market for a nice camera. I was told a DSLR is the way to go with a port hole to get the under water shots? I have a $500 budget and would like to buy a used one if I can help it. I would like for this to be able to take pics of my family as well. I have read about a program of some sort to help with the blue" I use LEDs" and love to view my tank under smurf pee lol with most my corals being z/p. Where can I find this program? Can you post a couple pics from your camera. Do I even need to spend? $500 to get a camera that can take great pics?

First, you can get a used camera and a used macro lens for around 500 bucks. Most come with software to allow you to adjust the white balance to aviod smurfdom, but LED's can be tough to shoot under. All that being said, asking us to help pick a camera is like asking us to help pick a car. Anyway here's a pic.

Nikon D200
Nikon 105 AF-S macro
Manfrotto Tripod
Nikon R1 flash system
Nikon trigger release
Photoshop Elements software

Cost of equipment I used is about 4 grand. You could get the stuff used for about 2 grand. I'm not trying to dishearten you in anyway, but money isn't something to worry about when getting into photography.

It depends on what camera you are used to also.
I grew up on file using Cannon.

Now I have switched to digital and am using Sony

My latest purchase was a Sony alpha-99 It is a full frame camera. It is 24mp. I also got a 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens.

Since I had a sony before this one all my lenses fit with no problem. So it was an upgrade for me.

Sorry about my magic-marker skills on that fish. Coloring in the circles was hard when it kept flapping around. ;)

Thanks Jesse.

You need to get one mate, really adds another dimension to taking pics.

Actually I have two an sb-600 and an sb-700 I just never used them for fish photography. This was my first attemp last night of course not as amazing as yours still working on settings lol
