Help me quiet my sump!

Okay here goes......I just got my overflow box quiet as can be(dursostandpipes).....now the SUMP needs to quiet it down a bit. The 2 one inch drain pipes from the overflow into the sump seem to make alot of splashing noise once the water gets to the sump. The drain lines are about 3/4 of an inch below the normal water line in my sump(75 gal tank,20 gal sump). Is there a way to make the splashing noise less noticeable......

They come strait down from the overflow about 1 1/2 feet then do a 90' forward about 2 inches and then another 90' down into the sump.

i have the same problem. mine goes down from the overflow box about 3ft then a 90 about 1ft then another 90 into the sump. mine is about 4" under water level.

Slow it down. I;m not a big fan of a lot of sump turnover. It can be detrimental to filtration and cause noise...as you have experienced.

I might have it quite slow now...I have a mag 950(and its pretty quiet) and on the return line I have a ball valve turned about 1/2 ...so about 475 gph.........a bit more than 3-5 times tank volume........but turning it down more will that really make quiet..the water is still falling the same distance and making the same turns?

zbrook1 thanks for posting i can't stand too much noise i think i have a solution for the megaflow but did not think about noise in the sump.

i am doing a 90g soon with dursostandpipes mod with airline and valve to help with noise, also using a slow flow eheim 1250 will only produce about 229gph at my about 4 feet little turnover rate so as to have less noise at the megaflow. But as for the sump not sure if less flow = less noise, i like that idea about adding a 90 degree elbow at the end of the overflow drain. Does anyone know if using this unit below will help and is it possible to add a 90 degree elbow to it.

looks good....where did you find that?.....but again what about adding filter media to the bag....Carbon....Chempure....Phosorb,,etc......

I added an acrylic top over the entrance area..... But there is a 90 degree elbow, then a foot of pvc, then another 90 degree elbow pointed down..... Ill try to get a picture up to show you what I mean...

But the acrylic top just made the noise rate go to almost 0.......

It like if u were trying to build a recording booth..... A room inside a room inside a room with as little air as possible because noise travels in air..... So if u put a top over that portion of the tank along wit the water already breaking up the sound waves, it should diffuse much of the sound, unless the sound is in the pipes where air is present, like above the waterline.....
