Hello everyone

Some of my sps corals are doing beatiful for months some went as far as a year the a slow bleaching starts, and i cant under stand whats going on. I use in the tank reef plus twice a week and feed the oister feast once a day. My Monties, some sps, open brain and clams are doing beatiful. am always testing my water and everything looks good. One thing i just did is change the salt from reef crystal to that Seachem Salinity new reefsalt. Hoping that would help some. Please experts help me...........

I have a 120gal reef tank with : 2 250w 10k lighting system, Bullet2 skimmer,2 reactors with carbon and Gfo, calcium reactor, uv, Hydor wavemaker w/2 koralia 4 and 2 koralia 3, and a chiller.

Water quality:

ammonia 0
nitrate 0
calcium 448
magnesium 1260
Ph 8.2 @ night 7.8 to 8.0
Alk 11

Lightin schedual

Act blue on @ 8am till 7:30pm
MH on @ 11:00 til 6:00pm
Moon light on @ 5pm til 9am

What is your salinity and what do you use to test it?

I would stop using the ReefPlus trace elements, you should get trace elements from a quality salt mix. Unless your testing for all those minerals your playing with fire - just my opinion.

Move the sps that are bleaching lower in your tank, you'll get more advise soon.

good luck!

I keep at 1.025 maybe close to 1.026. I think am going to stop using reef plus....I change my salt from reef crystal to the new seachem salinity salt...just did my first water change with it few day ago....thanks

roox many times in our systems new changes such as your new introduction of salt mix may cause some stress, w/o knowing much more about your husbandry and so forth perhaps you are dealing with this.

Anyways be patient and try to stay away from any other major changes. IME when things go bad in a sps tank or any other for that matter its a good idea to take a step back and go back to basics. GL

+1

Consistency is key. Also, I know Seachem produced a large number of bad batches a while back! I was a Reef Crystals user for 2yrs, then recently switched to TPM Pro about 6 months ago and the transition was fine!!!

GL and hang in there!

I also +1 on this....

Don't just jump ship on what's working because you see something "better". I have and will always use Reef Crystals. It works for me.

Which animals are you having trouble with exactly?

Patrick

it could be and like I said earlier it could also be the addition of the trace elements

Seachem is not known for their salt mix. The started selling it because they know thier brand name is recognizable. Reef Crystals has been making salt for ages, switch back and stop using the trace elements and you will see improvements.

EDIT

you had this problem before changing salt mixes? How long have you been dosing the trace elements and how often?

Yeah. Please read the info. I wrote. The salt change was do too see if anything possitive happends to my sps coral.
