Help me save my Green striped mushrooms!

I started with 6 on the rock. 2 fell off at the first day and got sucked into a powerhead. 1 opens great but the other 3 barley open. I put them near the bottom with little flow. Ive also tried putting them higher but they still wont open up. If i put more flow, they start falling off. Here is a picture when i first got them and they still look like that. Each time I move them, I give them 4 days so im not constantly moving them around. Scientific name Actinodiscus Mushrooms

My thoughts exactly. This guy has a "help me" thread in every category.

What he needs to do, is STOP buying anything. Let the tank mature, ask questions along the way.

OBVIOUSLY your tank is not ready for corals or fish. Go back to square one if necessary. (restart 100% over)


You cannot keep fish or corals alive. It's time to start over, wait, wait, and wait a little longer. Then add one thing at a time. One fish, one coral etc. Your tank is not yet established to handle very much.

OK i have green striped mushrooms that are doing well, here are the conditions for you to try and duplicate,

PH 8.2
ammonia 0.0
nitrate 20 (working on it)
nitrite 0
i have also been dosing gin,(yes gin, i had no vodka and the gin seems to be working with no ill effects!) 0.8ml daily

my advice is the same as everyone elses, get rid of all critters and corals in the tank, let it cycle fully for a couple months, and add things slowly so you dont shock the system with a huge bio load.
what are your water parameters anyway?

SPS are the only corals that need extremely low nitrates. Normal, LPS corals, zoa's, etc. can actually benefit from 10-20 nitrates.


You need an extremely stable system to add what the OP has added in such short a time. I think he was/still is unaware that in a reef tank, it takes many many months/years to achieve a nice full tank. Not days or weeks.

i let my tank cycled for a month. I than waited another month to add anything except a CUC and a chromis. Its now 4 months old. Ifisch, i am really not just adding a new thing every day. I just have lots and lots of questions on everything in my tank because i have OCD. You are right, im kinda restarting and im done adding for a very long time. Im trying to get some nicer appliances and a QT tank and sump also.

Well I think (hopefully) you've learned your lesson. Just down right stop adding anything. Go 2 months without having a single problem, then let's talk about adding more corals or fish.

I hope not to see another "help me" thread from you again. JMO. Sit back, relax and enjoy your tank as it is of right now. I know it can be boring, because there's not much to look at, but it will be better in the long run. Or else you risk loosing anything and everything else.

lol i got a chair right in front of it and i just like to relax and watch whats going on. i think i may keep this tank fishless and just add a mantis in the future. I went down the wrong road with fish i wanted so after my QT im just gonna save up for a small 20gallon long and restart from there. Youve helped a lot iFisch and sorry i was kinda a d!ck in the beggining. Knowing me youll see another "help me!" post in another week =).

what kind of lighting do you have by chance? In my sump is a single mushroom under PC lights and it is not opening all the way, but in the main tank under a 400w metal halide(29 gallon tank) the mushrooms are huge! could the green striped ones maybe like more intense light?

He's got stock lighting. 96w PC over a 29.

Seriously if you are 15 then you need to learn how to comunicate with people and stop calling people names and show some common courtesy.
