I just got my Sohal tang yesterday form lfs, which was qt'ed sapposably. Anyway things were great last night, this morning he ate like a pig (Mysis, Garlic, Selcon vit's), not spots at all i was very pleased. Then i left for a few hours when i returned he has spots all over fins and body, i rushed to the lfs and picked up cleaner wrass and cleaner shrimp, also threw in some kick ich. Any other info would help i realy want to give this fish a fighti chance. The cool thing was that the lfs owner knew that i didnt have ich in my tank prior to my purchase so he gave me the 2 shrimp and wrass for free. ;) I have been told not to use copper with tangs, so just hypo?

Kick ich and cleaner shrimps will not eradicate white spots (which could be either velvet or ich.) Hypo will work on ich, but not velvet.

Copper is the only thing that kills ich and velvet. I would remove the fish, place him in a QT tank and treat with Cupramine copper. I have treated many tangs and angels with Cupramine with no ill effects.

If you are against copper then do a FW dip on the tang. If the spots don't fall off then you can use hypo in the QT (ich does not fall off in FW dips.) If the spots fall off then it is velvet and the only proven method is copper.

Ok thanks man i realy appretiate it. Also how long would you recomend treating in copper for?

I treat for 4-6 weeks. Not all copper meds. are the same. Cupramine is the least toxic and very affective.

You'll need the leave the main tank fishless for the same period, while you are treating all the fish including the cleaner wrasse.
