I have a 75 gallon tank with a 33 gallon sump. I am looking to add a wrasse but cant seem to decide.

Current Occupants:

2 Black and White Ocellaris
1 Midas Blenny
1 Hippo Tang (Tiny)

2 Blood Shrimp
2 Cleaner Shrimp
2 Peppermints

Lots of snails. Mostly softies with a few LPS and SPS.

Anyway, I just cant seem to decide on a wrasse. I am leaning towards the Melanarus but have heard that they may take out the shrimp. Wondering if anyone could recommend a good reef safe wrasse for me. Also, not interested in a 6 line as I have read that they can be quite aggressive.

Thanks in advance.

If you are worried about your inverts you may want to consider a fairy wrasses. The Halichoeres family is not known to be "reef safe". I have a Christmas wrasse (Halichoeres claudia) and it is about the same as the Melanurus. It behaves but I don't monitor my smaller inverts. It has left my Blood Red and Coral Banded shrimp alone .... for now.

A lot of people talk crap about them, but i've always really enjoyed the six line wrasse. Another I really like the look of, but have never personally kept is the Mccoskers Flasher Wrasse.

6 line and fairy wrasses are solid choices, others may or may not take out your inverts depending on the fish. There is a large selection of fairy wrasses out there.
