Hello, my yellow leather is currently melting all of a sudden it is folded upon itself and part of the flesh is brown and looks like it is sloughing off or disintegrating. What is going on, is it dying. The tank also has an open brain and a frogspawn that are extremely happy. The params are
Ammonia 0
N02 and N03 - 0
Ca-450
Alk 3.0
pH 8.1
specific gravity 1.025
It looked good for a couple of days but is now doing this it was just added to the tank on Friday of last week.

Your Alk could be boosted a bit, around 4-5 meqs or 8-10 dkh is pretty good.

It sounds like it has a bacterial infection or necrosis, if possible, cut away the dying areas with a clean razor and give it a coral dip, then place it in a area of the tank with strong indirect water flow.

This exact same thing happened to me a couple days ago. Mine looked really good for the first month, then all of a sudden it started to look like it was melting and it formed brown stuff on it. All my other corals were perfectly fine and when i took out my yellow leather, all of the dead flesh/disintegrate went EVERYwhere in my tank and it smelt HORRIBLE. So I did a water change immediately and everything is doing fine. If I were you I would try and razor off the healthy part and move it to a place with some good flow as someone mentioned above.

leathers can be like that i purchased 2 leathers from the same store they both appeared to be healthy and after a few days they were flaking away. all my perams were within range, try not to handle it too much get it to a spot with good flow quickly and leave it. good luck
