today I noticed my steel grey millie. starting to bleach. it was fine last night and when I woke up there was a branch about 1/2 inch that had started to bleach. Im sorry i cant get a picture (crapy camera). the tips of the coralites still apear to have tissue but the rest of the branch is bleached. setup and perameters are as follows

120 gallon tank

2x150 watt XM 10 k bulbs. 6 mounths old
2x96 watt actinic PC
asm g3 skimmer
rowaphos
2 cups of carbon in filter bag sitting in sump.
mag 9 returnpump
tunze 6060

perameters

amonia,trate, trite 0
phos 0 on salifer test kit
PH 8.2
calcium 320
alk 9dkh
salinity 1.024

this is not the first time this has happened. I lost a green millie about a mounth ago. same symptoms. tissue slowly pealed off of the coral over a period of 3 days.

Your calcium is very low, what is your magnesium at?

Alk of 9 and CA of 320 is out of wack, with that level of alk you should be at 410 - 430 CA.

Are those your usual parameters?

thats right. Ive had alk an cal problems for awhile. Im finaly starting to get them under control. for a long time my alk was at 14dkh and my calcium under 300. I dont have a calcium reactor. I used 2 little fishies 2 part for calcium but I stoped about a mounth ago and switched to kent marine clacium aditive because it raised calcium but not alkalinity. this is how I lowered my alkalinity to where it is now.

Is your powerhead directed directly at the colony? That can cause tissue loss. If it is directed at the colony, move it so it is not doing so.

Agreed, the following should all be relatively stable in an sps tank

Alk
Ca
Mg
Temp
Sg

No, you have some reading to do. Interceptor will kill the Red Bugs and Tropic Marine Pro Coral Cure seems to work on AEFW. But are you sure they are AEFW? Did you see them on acro's?

Just a few on the AEFW.

I guess there not AEFWs I saw pics on anoter sight that looked just like what i found but they look nothing like those pics. the red bugs arnt on the millie, there on another one but that coral seems healthy.

I dont know whats wrong, the skin on the coral apears to be pealing away.

heres some pics

the coral has great polyp extention even though it seems to be dieing. my green millies polyps retracted about a week before it died

with a calc of 320 you corals WILL RTN just like those pics....

Get some turbo calc and raise your calc .. but u may still have to frag to save the colonies.
