Hello I'm in need of some help with my anemone. I've had this guys going on 4 weeks now. The first 2 weeks he was doing great sitting in the front of the tank, then he started to hind behind the rocks. Now today I come home and his foot looks like a balloon and his tentacle's seem to have shrunk too and once again he's in front of the tank. I placed him in a plastic bowl with crushed rock so he wont float away. He seem to have deflated a little but now he look to be inflating again. Is this normal Or is he dying ?

The only thing that as change was I used Chemi-Cleam to get rid of the red algae out break I got last week after the 48hrs I did a 25% water change on my 90 gal tank. And I plan on doing a 50% this week. at the time he was till hiding but he was still eating.

Thank in advance

90 gal tank
Temp 78F
pH 8.12
Salt 33
ammonia: 0
NO2: 0
NO3: 0
PO3/4: 0.0 - 0.25
dhk:9
Cal:460 a little high

Inflating the foot like that is common when anemones move. It is moving in an attempt to find someplace "better" to anchor. What type of anemone is this? Lighting is one of the keys to anemone health - what type of lighting do you have?

Hi! Was the nem attached to rock before it moved?

Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk

@anemone My LFS said it was a Toxic green anemone. When I 1st got him it was about 10" in diameter and looked like it was about to split

Lights I have 2 Aqua Mars Leds 12" off the top of the water, Connected to an Apex controller.
Blues 930 am -1030pm 10%-70%
Whites 10am- 930pm 10%-70%

@cancun I placed him on a rock the day I brought him home. He stayed there for a week. then he started hopping from rock to rock. then started attaching to the back of the rocks.

last night I ended up setting my 30gal QT. This morning he seems to be doing a lot better. I'm guessing there is something wrong with my water in the Display tank even though all my readings are on point.

I did notice after using the chemi-clean to get rid of the Red Algae I seem to have some signs of dinoflagellates (best way I can describe it ) on my powerheads. I thought this was the leftover slim from the red algae. I've been running carbon reactor since I did the first 20% water change.

Should I run a GFO reactor as well? Also my skimmer is still producing lots of micro bubbles from the chemi-clean so I'm not able to skim the water yet. I plan on doing a 50% water change tomorrow to help get the chemi-clean out of the system.

Don't do too much too fast. Take it slow. If the nem is doing better, there is no need to rush. I would hold off on GFO and just do the water change.

Give the little guy some time to find his footing (no pun untended). It can take a while for an anemone to find the place that makes it happy.

I have an anemone and it is the weirdest creature I have by far. They are like Cartman and they do what they want. In terms of your display tank, I can't quite agree with your statement of everything being on point if you have cyano and dinos. Clean the powerheads (outside the tank) and every other piece of equipment. Do water changes and avoid letting any natural sunlight into your tank (even indirectly).

@jlmawp I plan on leaving the anem in the QT for a while.

@ReeferNoob4ever you are correct they have a mind of there own. He's ran circles in my tank already. lol As for as the testing goes I use the API test kits and I tested the water twice before I posted this question.

@bent that is a picture of his foot. he's facing down. :-)
