Help My Crabs

I have a 55 gallon system set up for 2 months. I had 2 red burrowing crabs for some time and several hermit crabs. Recently I have lost both reds and a hermit crab. All levels are perfect.

The only changes I have made are a new UV light and 2 wave makers. Is it possible thta my substrate is to clean and I am starving them or has the UV light done something to them.

HELP

i'm having a problem similar to ur, I've had 2 dead hermit crab bodies laying amongst the LR, I've counted them out and I still have as many as I purchased, weird.

Hey,

That is wierd, but I have two less and red are gone.

Water Parameters :

Amonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10
PH 8.2
Salinity 1.022
Temp 82

Thanks for any help, I liked those red crabs and would like to do better !!!!!!!

those dead bodies are probabally shed or molted shells. if you have as many as you bought then thats most likely it. my pepper mint shrimp both molt at the same time as the hermit crabs, so every few months i see skins laying around everywhere..

yup molts. heres a molt of my porcalian crab it looks just as real as the live one that it came off.

yeah ive had molts that looked like dead crabs before! i come home and see them and think that my sally light foot is dead and then i see him the next day running around lol it gets me everytime!

What is used for water flow? The wave maker is more of a visual display for you and does little for tanks water quality.

Thanks all

I hope that is the case, I relly like thos buggers.

I will keep an eye out.

I run a power head, a submersible pump for my hang on the back UV light and my Aqua Clear 500.

Thanks so much for the help.
