Help! My GBTAs think they are Aiptasias!

Or a least they are trying to act like their little cousins.

I posted last week about how long it should take a clone to heal when they split and if there was anything that might be causing splits. At that time, my 2 initial nems had each split, one about a month before the other.

Now one of the 4 has split again!

I started with 2 large GBTAs that I got with a mated pair of ocellaris clowns and over 100 lbs of wonderful established LR. All went into my system at the same time (about 3 months ago) and all seemed great. My params are stable, although my pH and alk are low (8.1 and 6.4, respectively) and I contiunue to work on that. The tank they are in is a 40 breeder with probalby 60 lbs of LR and it is in a system with a 75G sump with skimmer and another 40 lbs or so of rock. Lighting is a 175w Iwasaki 15000k in a Lumenmax Elite about 8 inches off the water. Temp is ~78, with fluctuation from 77.5 to almost 79.

First split happened about a month and a half after everything moved into my system. Then the other original nem split about 3 weeks later. Today I found that the one that split first has split again, so I am now up to 5 total.

It might be a good problem to have, but I wonder if there is something I am doing that is causing this. I also am nervous about having 5 of these guys in the tank - I have a few frags that I am trying to keep out of their way, which is getting hard to do!

LOL! If these are majanos, call the Guiness Book people. The original 2 were probably 10"+ when their tentacles were extended. Now, after the splits, the clones are still each about 4" across (my clowns are pretty ticked that their big nem friends aren't so big anymore).

The title of my post was a little joke because they are reproducing so quickly (for a non-pest, that is).

Yes they can split when they are stressed or if something is out of wack in your tank. I would test your water to make sure there is something not stressing them out.
