hi - just noticed that there is a pink spot the size of a large sesame seed at the end of its dorsal fin just in front of the big black spot on the back. this spink spot also swell up a bit as well..... Would anybody know what would cause this pink spot ? appreciate any info that you may provide...

It sounds like it could be lymphocystis. It often appears on the fin edges. Occasionally the lesions will be pink. Considering the color, I would watch closely for signs of bacterial infection, that sometimes goes with lymphocystis. See if the spots starts to get larger before you decide what to do. A good water change is always a good idea when sometime looks wrong.

hi TerryB - thanks for the reply.... I did a 15% water change last night... if it is what you think it is.... is there anything I should treat it with ? what should I do if it gets bigger ? is it contagious ? ie: should I quarantine my Marine Betta from the rest of the tank ? .... thanks !

lymphositis is best treated with low stress and good water quality good feeding variety and added vitamins. it is a virus and can spread but rarely does to healthy fish.

the wounds sometimes lead to bacterial infection.

look out for red sores, cloudy eyes, pop eye, fin rot.

if you do not have a hospital tank set up the do so you may have to isolate and treat.

keep up the water changes

hi Andrewsmart... the red spot is getting bigger and looks like it is getting worse, like may become a virus infection ? what should I use to treat this poor sick fish ?

if it is indeed lymphositis then just feed well and keep the water quality up.

there is no treatment as such.

try and get a picture so a definate id can be made.

also google image search and try to see if that is what it is.
