I usually hate putting help in the subject!

My 55g QT that has been running for 3 weeks now .09

ICH is still running rampant in my tank and getting worse on my fish.

One fish a juvi imperator which I fresh water dipped last night and now his eyes are cloudy and the spots are worse.

I am lost on how to proceed.

There have been reports of some strains of ICH which are not effected by hypo. Sounds like you have one of those strains. I would suggest the transfer method but it sounds like you need faster results so my suggestion would be to slowly begin raising your salinity and then going with a copper treatment.

If you want to try it the transfer method is simple but quite a bit of work, i'm using it in combo with hyposalinity and just about have the Ich wiped out. What you do is move all of your fish to a newly setup tank every 4 days, cleaning and allowing the tank you removed the fish from to completely dry out while your fish are in the other tank. This breaks the cycle of the parasite. The Ich parasites live in the fish for 3-7 days after which they fall to the substrate and multiply. After 7 to 30 days they emerge from the substrate and reinfect your fish. The idea behind the transfer method is that you are killing/removing the parasites that are in/on the substrate and breaking the life-cycle. It is stressful on the fish, as is copper.

the more I read on here the more i feel that all this info on here is opinions and not facts.

not saying your info is wrong. but I am at the end of my rope hear. My new DT a 120 is going to be nothing then a shrimp tank.

i setup a 55g QT at the advice of hundreds on here an other sources. the ich seems to come back even harder.

now having to setup multiple tanks. this is crazy.

how is ich completing its life cycle if the tank is in hypo for 2 weeks..... barebottom tank, filter is an older wet dry i had with bioballs. water changes are 30% every other day.

All I can tell you is that I have read reports of people discovering that some strains of Ich are not bothered by hyposalinity. I have not seen this myself. Here is what is a fact, you have to understand and break the life cycle of the parasite. That is the only way to get rid of it. Yes, my advice is my opinion based on my own research and experience. I heartily suggest you research this for your self and come to your own conclusion. There is a ton of data available on the life-cycle of this parasite.

How are you measuring your salinity? Have you calibrated recently?

Hypo and Copper are the only proven ways to kill Ich. If Hypo isn't working after a month, I would raise the salinity and go with a copper treatment.

meth blue fresh water dips seem to be helping. put the angel in for 10 seconds at 1 teaspoon per gallon. cleared up the eyes and visible ich and blotches. breathing has imporoved so far as he is not by the top or by the airstone anymore. fingers crossed.

Good chance it may not be ich, if you can post a pic it will help. Dips aren't really going to help the fish, the parasite is protected by being in the skin of the fish, the only way to kill the parasite is when it is in it's free swimming state. Which would give me the indication that it is something other than ich. I know you are frustrated, and rightfully so. The thing is, a very large chunk of us aren't biologists or ichthyologist so it is basically only our experiences with the fish and parasites we have had to deal with.

I would be questioning your salinity readings as well if it is actually Ich. I would recommend picking up some 53ms calibration fluid and seeing if there is any discrepancy.

would the dips I did with meth blue work on ich. it seems to have colored up the fish so far.

they are eating and not hiding as much.

I have noticed the fish start hiding alot before the breakout. I have always seen that as a precursor of ich. is it the same for velvet.

the meth blue FW dips cleared up the eye.

After 3 weeks in hypo, it seems this issue is velvet. I have them now in cuprimine treatment and things are looking positive.

thanks
