Help need advice

I am looking for some advice on a situation that occurred. I was on line looking for some power head and came across a great deal at marine depot. Tune 6095 power head for $15.00 each. I have been in need of a good power head for the longest time so I purchased 2 for my 90g tank. Transaction went through, I got a conformation and started counting down the day till they arrive. So tonight I get an email stating that they made an error and they could not honor the purchase and they where going to offer the following.

"To make things right, we would like to offer you one of the following options:

If you would still like to purchase the Tunze 6095, we have authorization from Tunze to offer you a 25% discount, which would bring the price down to $205.49 per pump.

If you do not want 25% off each Tunze 6095, we will credit your Marine Depot account with $15 that you may apply to any item(s) you desire. Just write "apply store credit" in your order notes during checkout or ask the team member you speak with over the phone to apply your credit next time you place an order."

I am pretty disappointed at there attempt to make this right. I understand error but I think they need to own up to this errors and provide the equipment or maybe an equivalent at the same price. I understand they have a business to run but I sure they have taken advantage of other errors before.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would have ordered 40 if they were $15 a piece. Legally, you could try and go after them, but the time and money spent wouldn't be worth it.

Most, if not all of the big online retailers have a piece of wording like this on their site somewhere:

With respect to items sold by *****, we cannot confirm the price of an item until you order. Despite our best efforts, a small number of the items in our catalog may be mispriced. If the correct price of an item sold by ***** is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation.

I think you're upset that you tried to take advantage of someone's mistake and didn't get your way.... just like all the other folks on RC whining about this. We all know reefing isn't a cheap hobby. Get over it, move on....

Interested to see what others think, but here is my two cents.

If you were browsing around for the 6095's and they were $260+ every where else, what would make you think MD would be selling them for $15? Understand it was the price listed, but if it's me I'm thinking mistake right away and would never expect one for that price.

In this situation I would be grateful for the 25% off if that is the pump your really want or look around for another pump that might be a little less expensive. A lot of good options out there these days.

I'm sure you could try and raise a stink about it, but for the time involved I wouldn't waste my time.

Stinks it happened, but I wouldn't expect MD to honor the price.

This happened to me on another product from Bulk Reef Supply.

They honored the pricing. (Same money difference, apples to apples per this discussion.)

However don't forget to visit your prefered LFS.

I'll add that a lot of these companies have MAP pricing. That's why Marine Depot had to contact Tunze to see if they could offer you a discount. If a vendor gets caught selling below MAP pricing then they could lose the right to sell their products altogether. For MAP pricing items it's definitely better to give that business to you LFS. Better them to earn money from the product than some other company in a different state.

I had something similar happen with Marine Depot. They had an Apex listed for $100. I sent them an email first and they quickly pulled the listing and explained it was a mistake.

Now, I think you should jump on a 25% discount. You're not going to get them cheaper unless you buy used. However, Marine Depot should offer you the option of a full refund, not just a store credit. (Maybe they did)

If you knew the pricing was incorrect when you bought the item you were trying to take advantage of them. They shouldn't have offered anything.
