Help needed to frag shrooms

the other tang

New member
I have a huge softball size purple and green hairy mushroom that i'd love to frag. It is on a small baseball size rock, I think it would slpit if it had the room. I know some you can just cut and paste and some you can't. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these? This is my absolute favorite mushroom and I don't want to mess it up, it is pushing 4 yrs old.

Same Way you would do any other Mushrooms really .. cut the mushroom leaving some stalk behind so it can repair itself and grow another shroom .. then cut the shroom straight down the center where the mouth is .. and make sure both halves have the stomach this way it can regenerate and attach itself .. then you can take the halfs put them in the place u want it to attach and cover it up .. i use gause and it works fine for me .. i did this to a plain ricordia the other day and it attached itself about 3 days later .. thats kinda fast .. but usualy takes about 2 weeks .

These are uncharted waters for me, I have never done or seen it done. Just to clarify. Can I cut a pie shaped slice out getting to the center and all that is within leaving stalk and getting some too? Glue it to a rock and go? Should I dose anything to assist, I read on here strontium was beneficial to help in the healing process. I assume low flow area would be a good idea too. Lastly since this is my favorite shroom, what are the odds a rookie will kill it?

cut the stalk(trunk) and then cut as many pieces as you want.
leave in low flow on some sand in a few days they will attach to the sand and then you can glue the sand to rubble rock with super glue gel.

another option is to put it in the blender with a littls salt water, pulse a few times and pour back in to tank. you will have 20/30 small shrooms in a month or two.

as always with fraging ......remember to run carbon 24/7 for a few days to remove any toxic slime the corals release when cut and wear rubber gloves good luck.....al

I wouldnt leave them in the sandbed .. id rather attach them to something with a rubber band this way u dont have to Glue the shrooms ... they attach on their own .. and u wont have a chance of loosing them .. even if u do have low flow .. things in the tank can movve it .. i tried that method wasnt too good ..

The blender method works too but i wouldnt do it . my skimmier sucks up any particles that are floating around ..

Nor would i cut a Good Shroom in more then one slit .. too risky IMO

on a hairy mushroom i woudent use the blender..if its your first cut id just cut it in half until your more sure about cutting..it will heal faster that way..then ya have two.. one to save an one to let grow out so you can cut it or trade it..my two cents worth..
