we had a flood and the water went to the second floor. we are not going to get power for a while what should i do with all my live stock?

Depends on how big your tank is and how much money you have.

I had a 75g tank when I lived in MD with a 55g sump. We lost power and I only had a UPS that couldn't run my heater for more then 35 min.
But it gave me enough time to run to Home Depot and beat out alot of other people and rented a generator. I think it was close to 80/day and I had to buy a gas tank for late night refills.

If you have a small tank, you can buy an inverter for fairly cheap and buy a car battery or 2 and run the inverter off of that.

For now I would worry about temp and try and do some manual circulation.

You should be good for a couple of hours w/out any power, I lost power for 4 hours recently to no ill effects. I had a friend that lost power at his office for 36 hours (55 gallon) and he put a battery powered airpump in the tank. The water got to about 60 degrees and he lost a few things, after the power came back on and we took out the dead we added a teaspoon of sugar and didnt lose anything else and looked back to normal in 2 days...This unfortunately is not the norm though, but not the exception either

get one of those battery operated air pumpsn to aerated and add some circulation to the water. if you are going to run a ups use it to power a small pump. don;t worry about the temp, circulation is more important.

Circulation is good if it is only going to be a short term thing. But if its looking to be more then 5-6 hrs, I would start to worry about temp. Again, a car battery hooked to an inverter is a cheap and simple solution. But if its a big tank, I would look into renting or borrowing a generator.
