Help - One Spot Foxface

My second one spot foxface is going down the same path as my first one. Basically the foxface is fine for three weeks in the QT then just stops eating and starts to lay on it's side, and then dies. I have been providing different frozen and flake food as well as seaweed. I tested the water in the QT and it is the same as my display tank. There are two other fish in the QT, they are doing fine (yellow coris wrasse and longnose hawkfish), and there are no conflicts. I have no idea why the foxfaces keep going through the same three week cycle. I change the place I purchased the second one encase that was it, but I am going down the same path. Any assistance/ideas is greatly appreciated.

The foxface was dead at the bottom of the QT this morning and the other two fish are swimming around with no problems. The other two fish have been the QT for 6 weeks and in that time two foxfaces died for an unknown reason. I took a look at the foxface and he looked fine with no signs of a problem. I am really at a lost on what is going on.

If you aren't treating in QT, it's difficult to rule out specific disease vectors. I recommended Prazipro (for flukes) and TTM (for Cryptocaryon) for all new acquisitions since those two parasites are the most common. It's possible that the other fish are carriers for a parasite but are asymptomatic.

Ok, thanks. Should I do prazipro and TTM at the same time or wait a period of time between? I haven't had to treat any fish yet, so I don't know anything about it. Thanks for the help

I agree. I would TTM first, and then Prazi in a quarantine tank. You could do both simultaneously, but it might get confusing.

Is there always something I should use when getting new fish? I got the two remaining fish in the QT from different stores, so the theory makes sense. Do parasites just live in fish or on surfaces, live rock, coral, etc?

I would recommend reading through the stickies in the Fish Disease Treatment forum to familiarize yourself with treatment options for the various parasites.

maybe try to put one in a qt alone. they are usually hardy fish and easy to keep. I put mine in qt for a month with only prazi.

The QT is a 29 gallon with an aquaclear 50 and emperor 280 filters. Also I have a powerhead to kept the water moving in the tank. Between the three I think I should be good on oxgyen levels. I used an air stone as well, but turned it off at least a month ago due to the salt creep.

I read through the fish disease forum and I think the wrasse has flukes based on behavoir. I can't find prazipro locally, so I will have to get it off the internet. I am not sure where to get TTM. Basically I want to ensure whatever is going is solved and pick up another foxface. The after another month, think about putting them all in the display tank, assuming no issues.

You don't go "get TTM" its something that you do called Tank Transfer Method. It's in the stickies I suggest you read them
