Help orange coral growing over live rock and spreading fast

I had an orange substance/coral on a rock from the LFS. It looks like some kind of hard coral that grows over the rock. It is spreading over the rocks and taking over. What is it? How can I stop it or kill it? It has started to grow over my hammers and kill them. It is a dusty looking orange color and it just keeps spreading. It even grows under rocks where it gets no light. This stuff is something else and is starting to worry me as it keeps on taking over new rocks.

how would you kill. it is not a sponge

a sponge can be encrusting

I would agree with "lilfish". Without a picture it is anyones guess really. But if the rocks are to where you can pull them out before it encrusts over anything else, then that is what I would do.
