I have some palythoas that are have closed up and shrunken. On top of that they are discharging some brown stuff. The rest of the zoos and palythoas in my tank are fine. Are they doomed?
They could be expelling their photosynthetic algaes due to stress. Is this a new colony? New placement? Have you changed lighting or the bulbs recently?
My entire colony of rainbow palys, about 50polyps, did this just last week. Every polyp. Expelled some black/brown zoox or waste, not sure which. They look the same now as thy did the day i put them in the tank.
Since yours are closed, i would try moving them to either some less light or less flow. Sounds like they might be stressed.
Yep, seen mine do the same, looks like a tiny mouse pellet coming out. Before mine did it however, the mouths seemed to be protruding alot. This was most likely due to waste or whatever, has this happened in your instances?
It's one of 2 things waste of which a lot of polyps do not actively feed no scientific data(most zoanthids) while some palythoas and protopalythoas do and will have to expel waste post consumption.
or
It is zooxanthellae algae in excess and the polyp has to remove some of it. Usually due to stressors, shipping, lighting, water parameters......Either way they should be fine once settled...
