She sent me pics from her cell phone and I tried to sharpen and lighten them up as much as possible. Hopefully someone can help her figure this out.

Good luck!

Yeah, did the same thing. All she had was a camera phone so hopefully someone can identify without.

Pewter Jean- If you can get some clearer pics, just send them to me and I'll get them up for you.

This stuff is black and fuzzy, hairy, Exactly like hair alge except black, I've had a lot of cyano in my day, But never seen, nor did I know it is black. Also isn't cyano caused by excess nutriants. This tank was set up 2 1/2 months ago useing RO water. And never put anything else in there except the snail a couple weeks ago. Also when I tested the water the other day. It tested
nitrate 0
Ammonia 0
PH 8.2
nitrite 0
Phos 0.1
KH 8.0
ALK 2.86
cal 450
salinity 1.024
temp 82.
I don't know much, but I thought those test results were good.
I have a seaclone running on it, It is pulling about 1/4 cup every 4 days. and a emperor 400, and emperor 280, and a powerhead for water circulation. I had the diatom explosion, and about a week later it all disapeared. Then the other day, This junk just popped up. Why would the tank need to go thru another cycle? Especailly one this bad. Like I said nothing was added. no chems. no food.

Yes, I they are around in some spots.
Can I take the turkey baster and blow that junk off, or would that cause it to spend worse. The tank is very full of rock, At the very least 180 lbs of rock, could be more like 200lbs, in that 75 gal tank. So it very crowded in there. So it would be very difficult to try to catch up every thing that is blown off. I really don't want to start adding chems.

I set it up in this tank in Feb, Before that, I had it sitting buckets, to clean this rock up. I got alot of this rock in Nov. when I started planning on setting up a new bigger tank. I got this rock as a resue. This particular tank someone had and had let it go. (They were very upset that a certain LFS store had moved out of the area. and they said they were clueless as what to do. ) When I got the tank there was about a 2 to 3 in sludge, tar sticky green black all over everything, and bristle worms as big as a cigarette(that was just the part that came out of the rock that I could see). So I ask around about ways to salvage this rock. I took all the rock and divided it up into totes. and boiled water and poured boiling hot water over all of it. Then the next day I filled up all the totes with bleach. (Now this is what I was told to do, Not by anyone on here) another site. So now you all know why I am here now, and don't know anything after two years. I soaked the rock in bleach water for about 3 days. drained the water, and took the rock to the car wash to pressure wash it and get any dead debri out. and then I put the rock back in the totes and filled with fresh water and declorinator. I changed the water and put fresh decloinator in every day for about two weeks until I could no longer smell any bleach. After that I scrubed up the rock and shook loose whatever would come out. In Dec I set up the first cycleing tank and let it run until Feb. Then at the end of Feb I started up the fresh and final tank and cleand the rock again and put it in the frest tank with about 20lbs of live rock from my 75 that has been running for two years. That I know there were no bristle worms, and other bad critters. I figure by the time I get my equipment for the 180. This rock should be well on its way and it would cut my cycle time down from 6 plus months to about 3 or 4 when the final tank is set up.

That is what I was referring to before,When I said I was very surprised anything lived. But alot of the rock is getting the little orange fetherdusters, mushrooms, looked like golden sponge of some kind. and little blue with green Zoo growing around in there. I know none of this was from my rock I put in there. I never had anything like this in my 75 gal.

Those test results are about perfect?? I'd maybe double check your tests number one against others...Never hurts to compare with someone elses...Did you end up getting a refractometer? Most fish stores will test your water for a few bucks for everything. Might be a good place to start and just make sure everything is accurate. Those are pretty good numbers!

So for a few bucks you can completely eliminate the water quality. How often are you doing water changes?
No problem on the pics. Sorry I can't help with the answers

All new test kits, I just picked them up a couple weeks ago. the test on the 75fish came out about expected. Yes, I pick up a refractometer last week. Did a 7gal water change last weekend.
change water about 7-10 days.
